ROIO of the Week [Recordings
of Indeterminate Origin]
Ever since Wilco were kicked off their major label, the band has been
touring hard and allowing fans to record their shows and share on the
internet. Heres a great one. - The Little Chicken

Wilco
Montreal,
Quebec 2005 [no label 2CD]
Metropolis, Canada, June 28, 2005
As is their wont
to do cover songs, Jeff Tweedy chose an especially intimate moment in
Montreal to sing The Bands trademark tune, I Shall Be Released.
I do not recall him ever singing this ever again. Right down to the switches
in pitch and classic instrumentation, the ominuous piano that introduces
Tweedy as acoustic guitars pick up the melody, you are reminded of Richard
Manuels famous moment in the spotlight in the closing moments of
The Last Waltz. Wilco mesmerised with the shows final song.
Known to be anti-Bush
and anti-Iraq War, Wilco pepper their show with War On War, Hell Is Chrome
and Tweedy comments that sometimes he thinks the film The Manchurian Candidate
is scary as real life. "Be frightened with me," he beckons the
audience.
Wilco are one of
those bands whose repertoire improves with each new album. They are a
hard-working band, and like The Band, always on the road. Their original
material shines, even as they polish them further with each new performance.

Note: Theres
some distortion at the beginning of track 1 as the sound levels are adjusted
at the soundboard. On track 3, Jeff Tweedy restarts his harmonica playing
when he realises he has used the wrong one. Otherwise a perfect stereo
soundboard recording.
