Who needs voters when you can just ignore them? By Missy Comley Beattie.

Gary Younge, editor-at-large for The Guardian, presents a laser-sharp analysis of the Brexit zeitgeist and British leadership’s WTF? happens next. All hell’s broken loose. Who’s in charge? Who would want this task? Boris Johnson says, “That person cannot be me.” Understandable. Who wants to receive a big, fat failing grade before the course work even begins?

Without addressing the neoliberalism that’s resulted in a huge gap between the wealthy and the working poor, the never-ending war of terror on The Other, the fear, fear, fear, the pervasive see-something-say something mentality of xenophobia where suspicion and hatred separate us from our own humanity, I’ll scratch only the epidermis - the political panic.

Because panicking politicians are suggesting that they could just ignore the referendum and are encouraging “parliament to call another referendum, in order to avert economic catastrophe.” Laughable, when the people again might vote to leave. What then? A third referendum? This reminds me of interrogations. Someone’s asking the same question repeatedly until he or she beats down the interrogatee (underlined in red but staying) and finally receives the incorrect answer he or she wants to hear.

Barrister Geoffrey Robertson says no to another referendum though. His solution is that parliament could vote down the referendum: “Our democracy does not allow, much less require, decision-making by referendum. Democracy has never meant the tyranny of the simple majority…”

Take that, you tyrannical voters. Take that, you simpletons.

Continuing the assessment, Younge says, and here’s the irony, that politicians believe the voters didn’t know what they wanted, “or they were too ignorant to make informed choices, or maybe they quite simply wanted the wrong thing.”

Again, take that, you tyrannical simpletons. And there you have it. The voice of the people is meaningless, therefore it is necessary for more evolved human beings - politicians - to redo, reverse, re-whatever to restore and reorder governance. In other words, here’s a big fuck you to a majority too stupid to examine, evaluate, and choose.

Further irony is that the elected in Britain were pleased when that ignorant majority voted them into office. No calls for mutiny then.

We here in the US of America should look and learn. Our voices don’t count either. Nor do our votes. Perhaps we should think about this before entering that location to exercise an activity we’ve been told is sacred after which we’re handed a little flag sticker for our shirts - regrets and disillusionment often within days.

Why the anger? Of course people are trying to make sense of the vote and not surprisingly there are a lot of ideas being floated, but the referendum was non-binding but from how the markets are reacting it appears almost everyone agrees the UK will follow through on exiting the EU as per the wish of the voters.

What inside information do you have that people on Wall Street and European capitals don’t have?

Of course there are people on both sides of the issues, like with most complex political issues, those who are passionate see the issue as simple black and white, good guys versus bad guys, but those of us who live in the grown-up world realize things are far more complex.

OK, you publicly made an irrational and mostly incoherent rant, do you feel better?

  3. Brexit is an attempt at getting one s country back , England , France and many countries including America are almost unrecogniable because of all the Muslim invasion , You can walk blocks in London or Paris and not hear English or French being spoken , it’s almost as bad in the US , In the past immigrants would go to a new country to assimilate and become part of the fiber of their new nation like the Cubans fleeing Castros regime and many from China and Japan . Today however they just want to infiltrate other nations with the idea of spreading their hateful Muslim ideology and eventually taking over , Look at London and Paris today ? Bombings , Beheadings , everything associated with the Middle East . Anerica with our fearless leader , The Big eared grinning one Barrack HUSSEIN Obama has done nothing to combat these savages , he won’t build a wall and continues to allow these savaged to flood the country . As well as release gitmo savages so they can go back to plotting against us . Not very hopeful about his succesor , Both choices are horrible , what’s wrong with people here Trump is a big asshole blow hard who insults women and lacks any tact and Hillary is dishonest and corrupt as evidenced by her email scandal and a lifetime of other even more serious scandals but she’ll skate on this one too , the Clintons always manage to wiggle out of things and land on their feet , I guess between the two of them I’d choose Trump as he says he’ll stop the people from coming here , build the wall and be tough on terror . What amazes me though is despite Hillarys dishonesty and email scandal as well as the terror threats she’s ahead in the polls , are people insane ? Regardless of who wins many people will be holding their noses while in the voters booth ,And others will just sit this one out , pretty pathetic

  4. What’s pathetic is you trying to make an intelligent comment, Corey. You just can’t do it. You’ve never had an original thought, you just parrot what you read on blogs written by hostile morons as uninformed as you.

  6. Let’s see if you feel the same way if Isis has your family members captive with their severed heads at the end of bayonets , not supposed at the reaction though , today it’s as though 9/11 never happened , people are so complacent , No doubt Hillary will probably win , Don’t think people’s left wing attitude would change even if LA or NY were leveled by the bastards Only when it hits home will people take it seriously

    By Corey M on Jul 5, 2016

  7. The fact that people would even consider voting for Hillary at a time like this is more of a statement on the voters than anything else

    By Corey M on Jul 5, 2016

  8. The problem is that the old people who voted to leave have realised that they were lied to & are now aware that they are in danger of losing their national health service.

Every intelligent person voted to remain because they realised that the economy & the health service would go into meltdown but the old people voted for something that never existed & are now in danger of losing something that they rely on.

  9. Feel that the world was much better off before the global economy took over,Its global this amd global that, countries don’t have their identities anymore .Who wants to go to London or Paris and feel as though they are in Pakistan or Syria ,and who wants to see Burger King or McDonalds there either, also jobs are outsourced to foreign countries,Very few factories here anymore thats what being a global world has gotten us

  10. Wrong Bob!

The NHS was already being demolished by the corrupt politians before Brexit, hand in hand with greedy, ruthless, corporate entities & others. This is really stealing from the people! Using words like ‘privatization’ makes no difference, Theft is theft. It’s not theirs to sell off, It’s the property of the people who worked & sweated to pay for it. And like I said, this was already underway well before the UK Referendum.

As for ‘old people’ being lied to: I’m not of the ‘old’ generation, nor quite the ‘young’ camp either (somewhere in between)& I voted to leave. Not because of Immigration (UK/USA… bombing those people’s country caused that, what would you do in their situation?)Nor because of any scare stories about the potential effects to the economy from either side of the argument.

I voted leave because the EU & all those connected to It represent a dictatorship. One world governance, one world army, one world currency etc…Do the research, the evidence is all there! My forefathers fought for the liberty of their people & country! I do not take that lightly either.

It pains me to see all those marching in UK for another go at voting! If they got It & won this time, would there be thousands marching to protest THAT result & demanding another shot at it? voting for/against Brexit ad infinitum? Complete nonsense! I don’t think a lot of people actually realize just what’s at stake!

And lastly, the only thing you can truly rely on with a politician IS LIES! all sides I’m sure did their share of scaremongering too! ALL of them not fit to stand as spokesmen for the people in my opinion. None of these fools swung my vote, common sense did it’s job!

I do respect your opinions though Bob.

    Peace & best wishes!

And that’s just happened over the last few years. You’re a fucking dimwit.

“today it’s as though 9/11 never happened ,”

Because Dubya and Blair made such a fucking mess of things afterwards. Talk about not having a plan. But then, he made such a fucking mess in New Orleans too.

  13. with all of the political correctness still in place by the left wing loons and Billarys inevitable swearing in to office made even easier by the fbi’s unwillingness to prosecute her the floodgates will open even more.more Obama policies continued, wouldnt suprise me to see the ISIS flag over Washington within 5 years and Sharia law in effect The UK is at least trying to do something but it may be too late.already so many of the savages there

By Jim Hall on Jul 7, 2016

  15. Jim , no offense but are you disputing the fact that we have a problem with these people flooding into various countries , don’t know where you are but we have a worldwide problem , In past decades people weren’t trying to convert or kill us and new immigrants became part of their new adpted countries , explain why I’m wrong if you can I’m all ears

  19. Bob, you are wrong on so many levels it is laughable. Everyone I know voted leave and none feel lied to, fearful for the NHS, or afraid for our future. On the contrary. We do see a long, very hard road ahead of us, that’s true, but it’s a damn sight better than the dark oblivion we’ve been walking towards for the last twenty years.
