PAUL WESTERBERG
A Lot Of Songs - Not For Sale [no label, 2CD]
Live at The Troubador, West Hollywood, CA; September 17, 1996. Excellent FM broadcast.
On February 19, 2012 former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap was hospitalized for nine months due a massive right brain stroke. Songs For Slim was devised to raise money for Slim and his family by having various artists cover his songs.
Phase one of the project (which took place in January 2013) – the auction of a limited edition run of 250 numbered copies of a brand new, deluxe 10” vinyl EP package by The Replacements, their first new release in over 20 years – went off with a BANG, raising $105,743.42.
Effectively, it was Paul Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson as drummer Chris Mars “didn’t want any part of this” reunion. The other members in the lineup were drummer Peter Anderson and guitarist Kevin Bowe. The group recorded Dunlap’s Busted Up and Radio Hook Word Hit, Everything’s Coming Up Roses from the Broadway musical Gypsy, Gordon Lightfoot’s 1965 song I’m Not Sayin’ and Lost Highway by Hank Williams. According to songsforslim.com, all tracks will also be made available for digital purchase worldwide on March 5, with a commercial 12″ vinyl version hitting stores on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. There may also be an album compilation of the tracks later in the year.
Future auctions will commence on the 15th of each month and run for 7 days each. Next up is Steve Earle’s version of one of Slim’s greatest songs, “Times Like This.” (Click here for more.)
Meanwhile, fans of the Mats and especially Paul Westerberg should give a listen to this excellent FM broadcast with Westerberg in superb form.

Thanks for the post. Very nice recording of a loose (is there another kind with Mr. Westerberg?) performance.
Hard to understand the names of the band when he introduces them, but the drummer is Josh Freese.

Please keep posting Replacements and Westerberg solo. Personally, I am not a big fan if this tour. Westerberg’s always depends on his mood, and he was not at a good place professionally on this tour. He sounds uninspired. I would love to hear recordings from his 2005 tour. He was definitely in the, uh, right frame of mind throughout the tour. Bring on ‘93, too.

fantastic! Thanks for this. Had a cassette copy at one point but who knows where that went? (His in studio broadcast on KFOG about a week before this was also great)
