KARLA BONOFF
New Hampshire 2012 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Tupelo Music Hall, Londonderry, New Hampshire; March 24, 2012. Very good to excellent audience recording.

“For so many of us, a new Karla Bonoff album is like hearing from an old friend you’ve missed and think of often. Her songs are comforting, familiar and timeless, and make us feel a part of them just by singing along.”
- Lydia Hutchinson, Performing Songwriter Magazine

“I always had somebody mad at me because I wasn’t making records, keeping up the pace,” revealed Ms. Bonoff, who writes about four songs a year. “I’m really not that prolific - I think I’ve spent so much time trying to fit a round peg into a square hole that I just sort of worked my way out of wanting to write anymore. And I got a bad taste in my mouth about not being able to just be myself. I think in the time I’ve taken off, I’ve watched music change to the point where I really see songwriters - and women in particular - being able to write about what they want to. So it encourages me to just go, ‘You know what? I’m just going to write whatever I want, and I’m just going to make the record I want.’”

  5. Sorry to pull a ‘darth’ and be off topic, but the “Upon This Night … Christmas 2005″ repost includes a great Chris Stamey track “Christmas Time” that includes a non-credited backing from Alex Chilton! Get it!

  6. I think the estate of Bill Graham owns the site… it’s a treasure trove of long unheard content that I was thrilled to recently find. I only read the comments from you guys for the occasional additional links and wanted to contribute in the same way that I appreciate others have shared… do you have a source for more live Bonoff to offer?… or any of the other more obscure artists our host here has been nice enough to share with us?
    {I’m eternally thankful to whomever it was that shared the sugarmegs link last week}
