JOHN STEWART
Unreleased, Alternates & Outtakes 1976-1980 [no label, 1CD]

Tracks 01-12: Sky Blue Eight (early-1976 unreleased studio recordings). Tracks 13-22: The RSO Alternates & Outtakes aka Easy Fever (1977-1980 studio alternates and outtakes). Very good to excellent soundboard.

John Coburn Stewart (September 5, 1939 – January 19, 2008) was an American songwriter and singer. He is known for his contributions to the American folk music movement of the 1960s while with The Kingston Trio (1961–1967) and as a popular music songwriter of The Monkees’ #1 hit Daydream Believer and his own #5 hit Gold, among several hundred original songs composed over a career of more than 40 years. - Wikipedia

This is what John Stewart said about recording Gold with Stevie Nicks and Mary Torrey, posted at fleetwoodmac-uk.com:

Mary Torrey is a friend of Stevie Nicks and when Stevie came down to do Midnight Wind, we were going to mix Midnight Wind and I really wanted her to sing on Gold. Because when she did Midnight Wind, she heard Gold and said, Oh, I really want to sing on that. And I didn’t have the money at that time to put her on. I said, ‘I can’t do it without seeing that amount of money.’ We’d all had a few drinks at that point and what you say at four in the morning half in the bag is not what you might say in the cold light of a sober day.

So when she came down to do Midnight Wind I had Gold out prepared - I had it up ready to go and pretended I was mixing it or whatever. I could tell when she walked in by the look on her face that she was not gonna sing that night. She just had that ‘I ain’t singing’ look on her face. So I said, ‘Stevie, I’m gonna go out do the tag on this song - let’s you and Mary and I go out and sing the end.’ Well, Mary began to cry and I went, ‘Oh, my God, what did I say?’ Stevie said, ‘John, this is Mary’s dream to sing on a record.’ I said, ‘We’ve got to go out and do it.’ So we went out and did the tag and Mary was singing and crying.

I had the lyrics to Gold written out on enormous cue cards because Stevie really can’t see too well. Mary went back in the booth and I grabbed Stevie and said, ‘Stevie, come on, let’s just do the verses on this song. It’s not gonna take long.’ I said, ‘Turn the tape on,’ so they turned the tape on and held the cue cards out and I put my hand over Stevie’s mouth when she wasn’t supposed to sing and hit her in the back when she was and she did it in one take and I got her on the song.

American Journey is a 1996 release of three albums on three CDs. Allmusic.com: “The Last Campaign is Stewart’s 1985 theme album on the America of Robert Kennedy, a lovely, reflective set that echoes Kennedy more in spirit than in narrative. The Trio Years presents Stewart’s re-recordings of songs he wrote for the Kingston Trio between 1959 and 1966, on which he is joined by surviving Trio member Nick Reynolds. (The credits may leave the impression that these are the original recordings; don’t be fooled.) An American Folk Song Anthology contains performances of 12 mostly traditional folk.” Buy it here.

For his most commercially successful album, it has to be the Lindsay Buckingham produced 1979 album Bombs Away Dream Babies. It contained the song Heart Of The Dream, Gold and Midnight Wind. Buy it here.

By dropkick sarge on Mar 20, 2014

  9. No surprise. He also said he’d admit it if he was proven to be wrong. That will be yet another lie.

  12. dumbshit Darth up to his old tricks again posting under various alias apparently…

what a douche loser Darth… cmon quit being so silly Darthy…

    By Jerry's Finger on Apr 7, 2014

  13. i dont quote people like that. i dont post using other names. how many times do i have to repeat this? what dont u understand? isnt there a way for bigo staff to at least confirm this? just so that much isnt repeatedly accused. it would sure be nice to not have to see that constantly. i do not do it. period. i always use my own name. if i have something to say i always say it on my own name.

as for the kent state thing. i said i wasnt going to look anything up for u. i said u can do the research yourself. i didnt do any on this subject since i learned the info. i am sure it isnt impossible to find this information online. i didnt run. but im also not going to rehash it forever. whats the point? look how long we’re still hearing about shit i said from years ago. i know u dont like things i say but that doesnt mean its wrong. and no. u didnt prove me wrong. u said i was wrong. thats not proof. finding various posts online and some sites and message boards and so on where it says 4 of and 9 of that doesnt mean im wrong.
there is no lie. i didnt lie about anything. i could have been wrong. but being wrong and lying about things are 2 very different things. im not wrong in this case. but the point is that a lie and being wrong are extremely different. surely u know this. dont u? seriously.. dont u?
if u wanna talk about silly.. its very silly to spend years and years harassing someone u dont like. u people need to find something to do that provides more importance to what we should be doing here than what u are doing.

    bullshit. you lie about everything.

  18. First, thank you Big O for posting the great music amongst the hatred.

Second, I’ve watched all the back and forth trying to figure out why either side lets themselves get provoked by the other.

Folks, if you are bothered by this Darth character, please do yourself a favor and just ignore him. Seriously. I’ve seen some stupid things posted here that’s worthy of getting angry, but showing the anger doesn’t do him any harm. No comments about him means nobody is paying attention, and he loses his power.

    Just a thought.

Oh, and I Googled the name that “thank you” posted. It made for some interesting reading, but that doesn’t mean the Darth that did jail time for video piracy is the same one that posts here. The internet is a wide weird place after all.

By on the sidelines on Apr 8, 2014

  19. on the sidelines tells everyone to not comment but spends his entire post doing just that .

By left of ohio on Apr 8, 2014

  20. Hey left,

Sorry…wasn’t meaning to be hypocritical. Just wanted to say I understand the anger, but why make things worse for yourselves when it doesn’t affect the intended target at all?

By on the sidelines on Apr 8, 2014

  21. Actually the Darth that pled guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit video piracy IS the same guy posting here.

I know because I was instrumental in helping authorities prove he sold bootleg and pirated videos.

His “writing” style is the same as the darth cards shown on Google groups. And yes this darth is Glen Frohman. And yes he lies and does have multiple addies.

I hope his son ” Sean” found him.

By Moe on Jun 28, 2014

  22. Moes post should be bumped to the top of the list on a weekly basis or at least every time Darth starts going off on others.

By bill heard on Jun 28, 2014

  23. darth has a son named Sean who’s looking for him?

Yup - if he knows where darth is, he can arrange to be somewhere else.
