Hearing Colors [no label, 1CD]

Mixtape, excellent audio.

Filipino producer Eyedress (Idris Vicuña), who is based in Quezon City, Manila, has released a new mixtape titled Hearing Colors and, not only that, has offered it as a free download. This 12-track release of new music comes as the follow-up to last year’s Supernatural EP. Six of the tracks feature vocals by collaborator Skint Eastwood. The tracks were recorded using Fruity Loops in Eyedress’ bedroom on a PC laptop handed down to him by his father.

For those with long memories, this recalls Strawberry Switchblade.

Rina Raymundo of thisisthecut.com wrote:

After a decade in the UK and a year-long nomadic stint through South America, vocalist and lyricist Skint Eastwood found herself back in the Philippines. There, she discovered an immediate musical connection with Eyedress. “The first thing we agreed on musically was The Locust, and the last thing we created was a Keith Sweat cover.” Both wanted to create Asian bangers that sound like the future. Skint asked Eyedress for “his darkest and heaviest beats… to make them sound as light and otherworldly as [her] voice permits”.

In May 2014, Eyedress will play the NME Radar Stage at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
