TANGERINE DREAM - WARSAW 1997 (EDGAR FROESE R.I.P. 1944-2015)

EDGAR FROESE R.I.P. 1944-2015

German artist and electronic music pioneer Edgar Froese, best known for founding the electronic music group Tangerine Dream, died on January 20 in Vienna of a plumonary embolism. He was 70. Among his works, in 1975, Froese released Epsilon In Malaysian Pale, a Mellotron-based piece inspired by a visit to a Malaysian jungle. Just before his death, Froese completed work on his 500-page autobiography, Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure - 1967 - 2014. Tangerine Dream’s website posted: “The sadness in our hearts is immense. Edgar once said: ‘There is no death, there is just a change of our cosmic address.’ Edgar, this is a little comfort to us.”

TANGERINE DREAM
Warsaw 1997 [Tangerine Tree, Volume 20, 1CD]

Live at the Sala Kongresowa Warsaw, Poland; June 13, 1997. Very good FM broadcast.

Thanks to everyone involved; and to tadreamer62 for sharing the show at Dime.

Tangerine Dream’s gig in June 1997 was the last concert of their European tour in spring 1997. The first set of that show (the so-called ‘Vintage Set’, consisting of older compositions for the most part) was broadcast by the Polish FM radio. A remastered version of excellent quality of this broadcast can be heard on Tangerine Tree Volume 20: Warsaw 1997. The track list is slightly different to the set that was recorded during the London concert in November 1997 and released officially as Valentine Wheels. Thus, the Warsaw record is a nice counterpart to the album, Tournado, which features the second set (the ‘Modern Set’) of the tour, as recorded in Zabrze in April 1997. - voices-in-the-net.de

  2. Edgar Froese died of a pulmonary embolism aka: PE. The articles I’ve read do not reveal where it struck, the heart, lungs or the brain. My first girlfriend Nanette died of one that went to her brain at age 20. A month ago I went to the hospital for a week and am still trying to recover at home so I can have my second cancer surgery ASAP. I had 2 PE’s go through my heart and lodge in my upper right lung instead of going all the way to my brain. My condolences to his family, friends and fans.

  3. he sure didnt look like that pic up top when he died. i posted a link on the floyd page the minute it hit the news and the link i posted included a very eerie image of him.
id be most grateful if bigo could find material that isnt in the leaves/trees 300 hours collection. i guess anything that happened since 06 might make that cut. i have a bunch of stuff from 2012 and i believe just prior to that but maybe some studio outtakes or demos or rehearsals or something / anything from the last 8 yrs?? perhaps some edgar solo? extended material from his soundtracks that didnt make it to the public? maybe rips from the game(s) or dvd’s that there is no audio counterpart officially released for? that would really blow everyones mind. some of that material is seriously impossible to get ahold of and the quality is always fabulous.
for a nice article on wiki for him look here -

for the td article look here -

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangerine_Dream

i have an incredible collection of td but i always want more. i dont think i have everything he did solo wise tho. i know i dont have everything all the members did solo. i do have a lot tho. much of what they did is so impossible to find. i have been collecting conrad schnitzlers stuff since the very early 80s tho and i think hes the only other member that is gone. i always collect everything klaus schulze does and of course all ashra temple and so on. we should definitely have more german electronic progressive psych stuff here. please!!!

By darth on Jan 28, 2015

  4. conrad schnitzlers

now there`s name you don`t run in to every day!

By dropkick sarge on Jan 28, 2015

  5. This is a horrible loss for the German Electronic scene and music in general. We’ve lost Edgar, yes, Conrad Schnitzler, Conny Plank who was an icon Producer for Kraftwerk, Cluster, etc., etc. People consider his production work to be at least as important as any musician or band. Then there’s Pete Namlook (who died at age 51 for God’s sake). Check his music out if you haven’t - he did a series of releases with the great KLAUS SCHULZE called DARK SIDE OF THE MOOG. WONDERFUL stuff. My condolences to ANYBODY affected by the loss of Edgar Froese. The music he did with Christopher Franke and Peter Baumann in particular in the 70’s and early 80’s will be on my turntable until MY address changes. And Big O, I somehow knew you guys would be putting up a tribute post soon - you didn’t disappoint. Thank you AGAIN. RIP EDGAR FROESE (damn…)

  6. Very sad…condolences to family, fans and friends to say the least, and what a loss.

I would put Tangerine Dream right up there with Pink Floyd, just awesome. I played many a TD track in the middle of the night on my WLYX FM 89 shifts all those years ago.

Remember the movie “Risky Business”, the early ’80s flick that put Tom Cruise on the map? There were a couple of TD numbers in the soundtrack to that film that were crucial; the film would not have worked without them.

By Mr. Jimmy on Jan 29, 2015

  7. tom cruise might not be working either after the docu about his religion makes its way around.

  9. now go over to the pf page i just referenced to get the other cd that i wasnt thinking and posted a link there for. sorry.

By darth on Jan 29, 2015

  10. darth I don’t understand why are you posting links to officially released Tangerine Dream compilations? They are both currently available through sites like Amazon for £7 a pop and any TD fan worth their salt would have more than mere ‘best of’ collections - see the link to Ambient Landscape for items of real interest

This is a site for ROIO yes?
We challenge Big O whenever they appear to post commercially available items so what is the purpose in your links here. I don’t understand. Please explain . . . .

By swappers on Jan 29, 2015

  11. darth doesn’t play by the same rules as the rest of us. That’s why he went to jail.

By Willis on Jan 29, 2015

  12. i didnt see u post a link to ambient landscape. i am not sure what youre talking about.
as for the links i offered..theyre not my offerings. theyre on line and i am sharing them. nothing more.

By darth on Jan 29, 2015

  13. Think we’re getting at crossed purposes . . . the link to Ambient Landscape shows up at the bottom of the ‘responses’ as a “track back” and is really worth checking out. Nothing to do with me

As for your point re: your offerings, they are here because they were offered up by you as links, that’s my point. They may have been created by others as is the case with all this stuff, Big O included, I thought we didn’t offer up things that were commercially available. That is all

By swappers on Jan 30, 2015

  14. I thought we didn’t offer up things that were commercially available. That is all

it was not at all difficult to understand swappers he is just being darth obstinate and foolish and in this case ignoring the fact that he is putting bigo in a precarious position and it isn`t his blog.

By gold medal on Jan 30, 2015

  15. bigo is only responsible for things they post not things in their comments section that their readers post.
my offerings were for ppl who wished to dl the items. if u arent interested.. dont bother. dont deny others who wish to however. just like music u dont like posted here by bigo. was it taylor swift that brought about tons of comments about what is worth downloading? or listening to? change the channel if u dont like whats on. i wonder how many ppl did click my link(s). i know 100s or even 1000s dl’d it from where i got it / them. i was simply sharing them on another forum.

By darth on Jan 30, 2015

  16. Once more darth your arrogance is matched only by your ignorance. You miss the point entirely. Which was about ROIO v. officially released material. I am sure there are 100’s indeed hundreds of 1000’s of people prepared to steal legitimate product my point was not about taste and whether someone cares for Taylor Swift (whoever she is) or not but your posting links to second rate compilations that are commercially available rather than something more interesting as Big O are involved in here hence the reference to the FM broadcast concert from Warsaw which is great.
Oh and Big O are in charge of their own website and responsible for everything that appears here, end of

By swappers on Jan 30, 2015

  17. taylor swift - whoever she is? and u have the gall to refer to my ignorance earlier in the same paragraph?? are u shittin me?
2nd rate compilations? the virgin years 77-83? again? are u kidding or what?? im not here to offer u a blog. im not here to give u anything. if u need something get off your fat ass and get it yourself. i have more than a few times done what i could to find things for others on here who have asked. i didnt offer anyone help here in finding something. i was sharing something found on another site. u dont have to like it. u dont have to dl it. i ever gave the info on what it was so as to make sure that u didnt waste your time in case u might have thought it could be roio’s.
and no.. if anyone came to bigo and said we dont like this or that.. they would not be responsible for what is said in a chat area. its part of a free speech section. they are responsible for only that which they post themselves. u dont get to make up the rules/laws as u go. it just doesnt work that way.
    talk about ignorance. geesh.
if u had been kinder and less obnoxious and rude i might have shared more of my items in my collection. i have over 500 hours of td. 300 hours of unofficial product. the item here is just a little over one hour of that 300 hours.
keep in mind u can get more with honey than vinegar u asshole.

By darth on Jan 30, 2015

  18. oh dear, are you getting in a froth again?
    Nurse the SCREENS!
Ha ha ha ha ha time for your meds again

please note your links have been removed

    just SO funny . . . .

By swappers on Jan 30, 2015

  19. Thanks for the links - we have been enjoying these tracks, as well as others by Mr. Froese’s ‘Tangerine Dream’.

By Ambient Landscape on Jan 30, 2015

  20. the link to the amazon item linked above doesnt go to the item that i was referring to. however this link does -

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Virgin-Years-Tangerine-Dream/dp/B007DKNEI0/ref=pd_sim_m_h__1/275-7413396-9368660?ie=UTF8&refRID=08RWS341WCWBTPKTF05D

and sadly its no longer available.

btw… just a side note.. epix is a 5 channel series of stations that one can order kinda like hbo which has 9 channels but epix is better.. and on epix this week has been the movie thief which is on right now in fact.. its a film from 1981 which has a td score which is one of my faves. i watched it once or twice this week again. and im watching it again now just because theres nothing else on and because i love the music.

btw.. had u not made such a fuss over the links.. they wouldnt have been removed.

By darth on Jan 30, 2015

  21. I think you missed the point there, big d.

I’m assuming Big O removed the links because it was a way to download product that is still available through a retail source. If anybody wants this material, it is suggested that you click on the link Big O provided. I get the impression that he wants to keep this all above board, and more power to him for that.

By the way, big d….would you consider getting a keyboard with a shift key that works?

By mackdaddyg on Jan 30, 2015

  22. I think you missed the point there, big d.

wouldn`t be the first time, admit it darth you goofed.

By sluggo on Jan 30, 2015

  23. i didnt miss any points. u always think u got all the points and that i missed them. sorry about that but no. i didnt.
the link bigo provided didnt link to the item that i mentioned either which i pointed out. i linked to it but i also pointed out that it is not in stock. please learn to read carefully.
again.. had a huge fuss not been made about the link(s) i had posted in all likelihood they wouldnt have been removed. but its been done and its over with. next topic.
perhaps more items that are not commercially available will be offered.
incidentally.. im not the only one who could have shared links here.. if u have something feel free. its not necessary to expect me to always be the one to give to u. how about not always being a taker for once. do u have anything to give?? or is it always about getting for u? can u ever say hey i did some looking around and this is what i found and im sharing such n such and its unreleased so ill post a link for yall to dl??
btw.. there are a couple of 100 td items to dl at sugarmeg from 1968 to june 2014. i didnt check them all but at least 11 of them are absolutely not on the trees / leaves series.

By darth on Jan 31, 2015

  24. how about not always being a taker for once. do u have anything to give??

    two words. Lester Chambers.

By gold medal on Jan 31, 2015

  25. hey glen throw in Dave Mathews as well eh…?

    By Jerry's Finger on Jan 31, 2015

  26. what about lester chambers?? i didnt take anything. he wanted to take from me without even covering my costs. i didnt take from him. in fact i paid for my copy of the item that he wanted a copy of. ive explained this repeatedly. i wasnt seeking to make any profit off of him. i wasnt in a position to improve his collection at my costs. i therefore suggested that if he was willing to cover just the costs of the tapes and postage / shipping that i would take care of it and he would get the 2 tapes totalling 4 hours of recordings with only a song or 2 of his music on them that i would incur the wear and tear on my machinery and the electricity and then the gas and time for my significant other to get to the post office during her lunchbreak and standing in line to ship the package out to him. again this total cost was $10. for 2 2 hour videotapes to go priority. he decided in approx 1998 i believe it was not to accept my offer. not my problem. its not that different from sending someone blanks and postage but i didnt make him waste his time / money to send me blanks etc. first. i had the blanks i already purchased.

i dont see how dave matthews has anything to do with that. i didnt take anything. u can dl dmb all day long. i dont even like dmb. i had maybe 3-5 items of him in my collection. all tv stuff. if its on tv such as austin city limits and live at the ten spot.. and all i had to do is click record.. why not? its good trading material. its high quality. 2 shows fill a 2 hour tape. i didnt take from anyone. i didnt ask anyone for anything. these examples dont apply to the current topic. how can u miss the point so drastically?

i didnt ask anyone for these artists. u come here looking to dl for free. u arent giving anything. then some of u when somethinng is shared.. u bitch and moan about it. some will ask for something.. and some will express appreciation when someone like me offers help finding it.
but more importantly.. the ones who bitch most.. dont offer anything. ironic. hypocritical to the max.
