Belgium 2015 [no label, 2CD]

Live at Le Kursaal, Limbourg, Belgium; July 15, 2015. Very good audience recording.

English prog rock band, Camel, formed in 1971, has an interesting legacy, as documented at the wikipedia:

- A tribute band, The Humps, in Israel, routinely performs some of the band’s material.

- Another tribute band named Fritha (after the song on the Snowgoose album) is performing in Japan.

- In Sweden there is a tribute band named Lady Fantasy (after the song on the Mirage album).

- A band named Raha in Iran is doing covers of Camel songs.

- In 2010, a Norwegian progressive band has taken the name Mirage after the title of Camel’s second album.

- About the same time, an Italian Camel tribute band has also taken the name Mirage.

tisnix noted: “Only upped/balanced the sound. This recording turned out very good. Sit down in the dark and turn the volume up…”

“While (founding member Andy) Latimer’s music is tuneful and well-composed and definitely of interest to discerning listeners, there’s just a sense of quiet decency and compassion in his songs, his playing and his voice that makes this music for true grown-ups, not in the easy listening sense, but in that there is a lot of wisdom to be found here. A reassuring tranquillity and an interest in human betterment…”

  2. Big O Amigos, thank you very much. This will help with the hamburger-fueled cool-down and Thompson sunset watch after the Audrain County Fair. Be well, James

  3. Andy Latimer is a very underated guitar player. Thanks BIGO

  4. Saw Camel here in the U.K. in late 2013 then early 2014.
I agree with Tunafan, Mr Latimer is a very, very good guitarist. I think he is very melodic, doesn’t just play the notes, he plays the music.
I think both he and the band enjoy performing their music above all else, you can hear that their hearts are really in it.

  5. I just saw Camel at that venue in Belgium…
Fantastic and wonderful ambiance …Cool and relax. The group was in very good shape and so pleased to be there …I agree with Tunafan : Andy is an underated guitar player, and as every one can see near the stage, he’ s living music …

  9. i dont think hugh laurie sucks. seriously. i think hes fantastic. and i think the copper bottom band is fantastic too.

By darth on Jul 19, 2015

  10. hugh laurie sucks, and he blows too. i saw his tv special about new orleans, he was seriously bad. his band is good because he can afford to hire first rate musicians.

i suspect that david duchovny, your other hollywood hero, also sucks. i’ll withhold judgement on him because he was in the x-files. he probably uses music to distract himself from his porn addiction.

start thinking up a new id for brooklyn steve’s, u are on your way out. i bet u love being the center of attention u sick freak.

  17. Thanks Big O!!! Great show and it sounds like Andy is getting his health and energy back in great form! Truly a guitarist in equal with anything Gilmour or Howe have put out, not putting them down at all, Mr. Latimer just isn’t a household name as those guys are.
