December Down Under [no label, 1CD]

Live at Sydney Stadium, Sydney, Australia; December 2, 1961. Fairly to very good FM broadcast (considering its age). Sound is slightly muffled - could be either due to the taping or the radio reception.

The world just celebrated 100 years of Frank Sinatra on December 12.

Sinatra comes on stage while the orchestra is playing the music of Ring a Ding Ding and the show starts. He is totally in the mood for singing the songs in this concert, and the way he sings makes some of the songs much better than their studio versions. You can feel the swing and his energy…

Warren Berkery: “I worked on the Frank Sinatra concert which remains a high point even 50 years later. The audio director was (the late) Max Alexander, known to his friends as ‘The Magic Pudding’ and, despite the technical limitations of a 12 channel mixing desk and 1961 mono standards, it remains amongst Sinatra’s finest. Hats off to Frank and to Max.”

  3. Looking very forward to this. The master at the peak of his vocal power. But my advice is grab it now if you want it - Frank’s family will probably want to release this commercially.

  9. Hey Big O, thanks for this! Any Frank from around this time is must-have. Anybody know anything about the orchestra, the arranger credits, etc.?

  10. This is a marvelous show! I have this from another online location, but here someone has removed one song, ANGEL EYES, from the last half of the concert so that the whole show will fit on one CD. I kept ANGEL EYES because it is a favorite song of mine, and so my version of this show is a 2 CD set.
