Camden 2003 [no label, 2CD]

Live at The Waterfront, Camden, NJ; July 2, 2003. Very good soundboard-audience matrix.

Thanks to original uploader agovigli for all the efforts; and to ademotte for keeping the show alive at Dime.

ademotte noted:

Your enjoyment of this [show] will vary directly based on your opinion of Neil’s “Greendale” album. The live performance of this one bordered on performance art, where there were actors onstage with Crazy Horse playing out the storyline while Neil sang. I have to admit that when I saw this tour in Chicago the concept was lost on me, but it could have been because of my nosebleed seats where I was so far removed that I couldn’t tell what the heck was going on. In any case, the encore is the prototypical raw, hardcore Crazy Horse playing a few of their most well-known songs. Even if Greendale doesn’t work for you, you will like the last 45 minutes or so if you’re a Neil fan.

Sound quality is stunning. If you enjoyed the Greendale tour and don’t have this one, it’s well worth the downloading - the best-sounding recording that I’ve heard from the tour, anyway.

I recieved three years ago in a trade a pro-shot video of the Neil Young 2003 Camden show. The first thing noted was the nice audio, but sometime in the right channel some dropouts happened. At the end of the ripped audio, the quality sound at my ears similar at a soundboard, too much closed. So I decided to check a way to improvement the quality sound of the show in a similar way that the Bruce Springsteen’s fans made with some of their best recordings.

After adjusting the dropouts of the right channel I mixed the soundtrack video with an audience of the same show taken from a DAT, to open the closed sound. A really hard work for the synchronizations (lots of hours… I assure you… is not easy) a lot of patience for feel that all was OK (the balance level of the two sources)… finally the end: All the frequency was covered and the result paid all the work made.

  9. I like Greendale - it was the first time Neil created and wrote in the voices of multiple characters, and the characters are fully developed. I did not see it performed live but I heard mixed reviews of the concept with the actors on stage. I give him credit for continuing to push the envelope this far into his career where he could easily coast on his greatest hits. Thanks for all the work on this recording and for uploading it.

  10. I saw this show. Although not really into the Greendale stuff I always admired his ability to play whatever he wanted. I remember seeing him in 83 at the Spectrum when he got boo’d for playing a Shocking Pinks set. It’s usually not a retro show with Neil. Lucinda Williams opened the show. Sun Green is a great song, and the Crazy Horse ending rocked.

Thanks for posting and Happy New Year.

  16. It seems to me that anyone here who has an opinion about anything is called a troll . So some people like Neil Diamond ! Some people like the monkees or the Archie’s or whoever they like . Just because you don’t share their opinions does not make them invalid . Music is what makes you feel something , It dosent have to get mainstream approval for it to be good ? It’s all about what gets the individual going . I still like Hernans Hermans , guess I’m a fucking idiot too.

By Frank on Jan 3, 2017

  17. Yeah , I have kids who listen to this what I call noise pollution or modern crap by people who I feel have no talent but I never say anything to them because I remember my folks calling my music shit when I was a kid . Maybe they hear something that I don’t , today’s music for the most part sounds like shit to me but hell thats just my opinion , others don’t have to share it , to each his own

By Don on Jan 3, 2017

  18. The problem is not Mancini’s opinion or taste. It’s that he seems to be on a mission to force it down anybody’s throat as we needed his good word to be saved from bad music. And the only way he knows to do it is by thrashing other people tastes.

By mrbelette on Jan 3, 2017

  19. like all trolls he enjoys being a problem and getting attention. a moderator would end the problem.

By barth on Jan 3, 2017

  20. How about a for trolls only comment section,Mancini is not the worst troll here ,others are far worse than he is

    By Stuart G on Jan 4, 2017

  21. at least he talks music, dosent talk about dicks, nuts or politics

    By Stuart G on Jan 4, 2017

  22. yes stuart you/boom have other screen names for the gay porno talk

    By James O on Jan 4, 2017

  23. He doesn’t talk music, his delirium includes rants about music. We get the message “70’s rock and nothing else”. What is there to talk about ?

By mrbelette on Jan 4, 2017

  24. why is there so much hostility towards boom boom and so little directed at all the porn and gay talk ? a dumbass makes stupid comments and that takes priority over the x rated stuff.i would not let my kids read most of this stuff here

By Stanley on Jan 4, 2017

  25. Stop arguing and listen to this seriously amazing music.

  26. You know, when I caught this tour at Radio City Music Hall before the show I was talking with a younger guy who had been recording Neil`s shows for a few weeks. We talked for a few minutes and he said he had to split then handed me a 2 disc, complete show he had recorded the week before. It`s around somewhere and it sounds fanatastic. What would be the best way to share it?
