This source appeared to be running quite fast, causing the pitch to be approx. 58 cents sharp. That’s now been remedied. Please share this remaster of the goody-fied edition from now on. Thank you! And thanks to ‘blackforest’ for his original torrent, upon which this upgrade is based. It’s always an honor for me to place these things back out in the world in better shape than that in which they’ve been circulating; certain sets originally played by inspirational musicians who have especially influenced much of my playing. John McLaughlin has definitely been one of those. The records he made around this time were among those most replayed by a very impressionable young goody. Great to pass this one along now, now playing at the correct speed, properly in tune.

From inamorata’s previous share, we have his original introductory text:

Two weeks ago, (Professor) goody kindly reseeded my remaster (based on his suggestion for the appropriate speed correction) of this historic show. In my first upload in September 2009, I was bold enough to label this the definitive remaster; I am honoured to see that the Professor agrees. In the comments to his reseed, user mmtkhk asked for a 24bit version. So here it is, never circulated before.

inamorata’s [latest?] notes:

I consider this an upgrade to both versions mentioned above, although the improvements over goody’s version are subtle rather than dramatic. In order not to degrade the very fine sound of the recording more than necessary, I started out from blackforest’s original files and did all edits in 24 bit resolution. First, I repeated goody’s speed fix (-58 cents). I manually repaired numerous small drops in volume (apparently due to tape degradation), either by boosting the volume or by splicing in tiny parts from the other channel. A further small flaw of this recording must be due to the original (live?) broadcast mix, which is somewhat uncommon, as all the room reverb is in the right channel only. During the applause, the stereo balance appears to have been modified, which caused inconsistencies right at the start of each tune as the balance was adjusted again. I tried to reduce these effects with small volume changes in both channels. Additionally, the right channel was a few samples ahead of the left, which suggested (at least when listening with headphones) that the guitar was to the right of the listener, together with the reverb. All in all, the sound field is more logical and consistent now. Finally, I applied a minimal amount of noise reduction and lowered the volume of the announcement, the initial tuning and the applause throughout by about 3 dB.

The concert was titled “Solo Now!” with five solo acts by Albert Mangelsdorff, Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Jean-Luc Ponty and John McLaughlin.
This concert was part of the “JAZZ NOW!” Festival (August 17.-20., 1972) during the Olympic Games in Munich. The program was organized by Joachim Ernst Berendt.
