GINGER BAKER R.I.P. 1939 - 2019

Ginger Baker, one of the most innovative and influential drummers in rock music, has died on October 6, 2019 at the age of 80. In September 2019, the family of Ginger Baker announced that he was critically ill and asked to keep him in their prayers. A co-founder of Cream, he also played with Blind Faith, Hawkwind and Fela Kuti in a long and varied career. His style combined the lyricism of jazz with the crude power of rock. One critic said watching him was like witnessing “a human combine harvester”. Nicknamed Ginger for his flaming red hair, he was also a temperamental and argumentative figure, whose behaviour frequently led to on-stage punch-ups.

One of rock’s first “supergroups”, Cream (together with Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton) fused blues and psychedelia to dazzling effect on songs like Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Badge and I Feel Free. They sold more than 35 million albums and were awarded the world’s first ever platinum disc for their LP Wheels of Fire. Along with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the band expanded the vocabulary of heavy rock, especially during their incendiary live shows, where the three musicians would stretch simple riffs into long, exploratory improvisations. - BBC

  2. Thank you so much Big O and JWB for this fan-made project. Other than Toad being a tiny mite too loud, this is excellent!

By ScarRad on Nov 14, 2017

  3. Thank you! Looking forward to hearing this.

By Brian Griffin on Nov 14, 2017

  4. These tracks were previously parts of other sets given out by Big O, but these are now upgraded to 320 kbps, where the previous ones were all at 224 kbps, and if I can hear the difference, you probably can hear the improvement too. Note: track 04 - Sitting on Top Of The World is 30 seconds shorter here only because some tuning at the end was removed.

By ScarRad on Nov 14, 2017

  5. My first thought was “oh no, not another Cream show” (some of the audience recordings circulating are pretty lousy), but I was really impressed with this on first listen. Nice and clear, the band full of energy and versions seemingly not that often shared. Thanks Big O and JWB for sharing. Love the artwork too!

By Macca on Nov 14, 2017

  6. Yikes, can’t get over how clean - especially for ‘68 - this is……

By harmon on Nov 14, 2017

  7. It seems astonishing we can hear shows and tracks now from the sixties that are as clean and vital as this. I have said it before but it never ceases to amaze and that is largely because I am of the generation that was there and saw Cream (and Blind Faith amongst others) and expected ‘bootlegs’ to be unlistenable back then . . . . . . wonderful stuff.

N.B. an aside but ‘Politician’ seems especially pertinent at the mo’ over here . . . “Hey now baby, get into my big black car . . . . ” ooh bit of political satire there

    Top stuff Big O thanks!

By swappers on Nov 14, 2017

  8. Thanks for this big o. This does sound good, but have none of you ever heard the 68 soundboards from San Diego, Inglewood, and Oakland? These full shows are available in flac pretty much everywhere you look online..

By Badge on Nov 14, 2017

  9. Thank you Big O Amigos, this should help wind down after the Sturgeon R-V Blue and White Night basketball game and chili supper. Great tunes for a Thompson Twilight!
    Respectfully, James

By James on Nov 14, 2017

  10. Thanks, BigO. Great sound, great band!

By strickles on Nov 15, 2017

  11. Hi Badge. Those were the “other sets” I was referring to in my second post, that are on Big O in 224 kbps.

By ScarRad on Nov 15, 2017

  12. great to hear these all on one compilation. thanks big o.

By sluggo on Nov 15, 2017

  13. Not trying to disparage big o’s efforts here in any way, just surprised I suppose when others don’t have everything I do. Its been suggested more than once that I may have too much, but its a good problem to grapple with. Thanks big o.

By Badge on Nov 15, 2017

  14. So Bebe , are these guys gigantic in the cock dept ? We’d all love to hear about your backstage experiences.

By Ule on Nov 15, 2017

  15. Thx for this compilation — HELLO SLUGGO!!

By Kevin B Allodi on Nov 15, 2017

  16. They were all huge , giant cocks all , I was only 15 or 16 at the time I did them backstage of course

    By Bebe B on Nov 16, 2017

  17. Thanks Beebs, now I can beat my tiny meat to your idiotic comments. Was it always backstage because you’re an ugly stupid whore no one wanted to be seen with?

By Ule on Nov 16, 2017

  18. Way to go Ule, just encourage the stupidity and then complain when they answer you. Either you’re a fathead or you and Bebe are one and the same person

By walt on Nov 17, 2017

  19. Ule Bebe and all the other fake names writing all the filth having nothing to do with the music all work for Big O, otherwise the site would have blocked them from posting long ago. Big O obviously likes the porn comments as they have done nothing about them.

By Randy Wiley on Nov 20, 2017

  20. You obviously love the huge nuts bouncing hard and fast on your chin

  28. derrick we lost another one

Andy Etchebarren, who won two World Series with the Baltimore Orioles, died Saturday at age 76.

His death was announced by the York Revolution, which he managed to two Atlantic League championships before his retirement in 2012. His cause of death was not released.
    Derrick, we lost another one.

Etchebarren was a light-hitting catcher - he averaged just .235 over 948 career games - but he handled some of baseball’s best pitchers.

In 1970, the Orioles staff had three 20-game winners - Jim Palmer, Dave McNally and Mike Cuellar - and won the World Series. Etchebarren appeared in 78 games that year, and as a rookie in 1966, he played in 121 in another World Series-winning season.

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  32. RIP Andy Etchebarren. Anti I do remember him as that light hitting catcher who was Palmers favorite catcher . I do remember him splitting duties with Ellie ( Elrod ) Hendricks during them years 69 70 71 when the birds was the best team in baseball. Think Hendricks is dead too . Man Anti ‘ McNally ‘ Cueller ‘ Earl Weaver Frank Robinson all gone now too . I am feelin old my friend

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  33. Think Brooksie is still with us ‘ Paul Blair I think died awhile back . Anti do you know if Mark ( the blade ) Belanger is still with us ?Also Davy Johnson ? Chico Salmon? Don Buford ? Bobby Grich?

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  39. Derrick check out this video. This video made me a Moon fan

By THE ANTICHRIST on Oct 7, 2019

  40. While Rolling Stone magazine once ranked him the third-greatest rock drummer of all time, behind Moon and Bonham, Baker had contempt for Moon and others he dismissed as “bashers” without style or background. Baker and his many admirers saw him as a rounded, sophisticated musician — an arranger, composer and student of the craft, absorbing sounds from around the world. He had been playing jazz since he was a teenager and spent years in Africa in the 1970s, forming a close friendship with the Nigerian musician-activist Fela Kuti.

By THE ANTICHRIST on Oct 7, 2019

  41. Hey Anti ‘ off topic for a minute. Green Bay packers 17 my Dallas Cowboys 0’at the fuckin half . Aaron Rogers is the man again against the pokes Hi Yeller QB Dak Prescott two ints and looks lost out there . Love cowboys but hate Jerry Jones after he fired Coach Landry back in the day after he bought the team . Just love it when Jerry loses . Ego maniac mother fucker

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  42. Hi Yeller Prescott ain’t no Staubach ‘ Aikman ‘ Meredith, even Romo ‘ Danny White . Oops 24 0 now Defense sucks too

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  43. Who the fuck fires a coach after two straight super bowl championships like Jerry did to Jimmy Johnson. A quarter century later no more Super Bowls for Jerrah The Jimmy Johnson curse .

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  44. Yeah anti ginger was a complete master of them sticks

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  46. And of course Nick Mason Pink Floyd

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  47. Derrick, Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1995.

By Tony Pizza on Oct 7, 2019

  48. Made a good point bout Buddy Rich . Can’t just include rock drummers . Some folks think Buddy was the best .

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  49. Yeah that’s right Barry Switzerl won that year with Jimmys team . Anybody could have coached that fuckin team . So much talent. They won in spite of Barry .

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  50. Lost to 49ers the previous year in candlestick cause Switzer didn’t have em prepared. Should have been four straight and woulda been ifJimmy had stayed the coach

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  51. Lost today 34 24 ..Prescott 460 passing yards but 3 picks ,, bunch of penalties, dropped passes. Defense also sucked allowed packers to run all over em . Garrett got to go . Jerry needs to go too and take his ugly ass son with him . Tired of the Joneses

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  52. Im watching my colts against mahommes the monkey. the colts have jacoby and tj and lead 7-3. hope they notch that high yeller down a notch

By THE ANTICHRIST on Oct 7, 2019

    R.I.P. Ginger!!

By Frank on Oct 7, 2019

  54. Yeah Anti Mahomes vs Brisette . A hi yeller. vs a full blooded coon . That’s the nfl today nutin but coons and high yellers. In your face hip hop bullshit . Sorry that Luck retired and this coon is your only option.

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  55. Anti ‘ I’d still be pissed about the whole fuckin move to Indy . Indianapolis Colts still don’t sound right man.I would hate the Irsays to this day for what they did to Baltimore.

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  56. Packers 34 Cowboys 24 Prescott 3 interceptions ( should have been 5) Defende also sucked. Jerrah better think twice bout giving that hi yeller 40 million a season. Blacks and hi yellers ain’t good qbs. Most is too stupid to play quarterback.

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  57. That’s why Rodgers ‘ Brady ‘ Wentz is still the best . White players got brains . You got to be able to think to play QB. It ain’t just bout runnin fast an throwing it far

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  58. Hey Anti ‘ how’s bout Christian McCafferty yesterday goin off fer 180 yards plus an 80 yard TD . Who said white running backs couldn’t get it done . Coons is just in fashion that’s all

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  59. Derrick / I can’t watch this god damned nfl football today . These celebrations and disgusting behavior by niggers has ruined it for me . Same with basketball. Our beautiful white race is under siege and has been for some time .

By Jerry Disher on Oct 7, 2019

  60. I admit it was very nice seeing that McCafferty kid go off yesterday though. You don’t hardly never see white running backs no more. Same with receivers. Niggers own most sports and then and the other foreigners mainly Muslims and indians are ruining this country.

By Jerry Disher on Oct 7, 2019

  61. Hey Derrick,
    G O P A C K E R S !!!!!!!!!!

By GBP on Oct 7, 2019

  62. Hey packer fan . That’s fine with me till we get that coon qb on the bench and start Cooper Rush . Prescott is a mother fuckin dumbass hi yeller idiot. Coach Landry never would have played a hi yeller or a coon at qb . We had dandy don and Staubach back in the day

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  63. Roger Staubach could come back today at 77 and be better than hi yeller Prescott

By Derrick on Oct 7, 2019

  64. Bruce, you will see those CDs online. They are basically “grey market” CDs which were not officially released by the record companies who signed the bands. My understanding is radio broadcasts are public domain after 25 years.

By Tony on Oct 7, 2019

  65. I’d say that Ginger Baker was the best drummer of his era. I love Keith Moon’s drumming, and John Bonham’s, but Ginger Baker is in a different league. They’re like great heavyweight boxers with speed, strength, and footwork. He’s doing judo and tai chi. More powerful, but less effort. Check out his recordings with Fela Kuti and some of the long tracks from Ginger Baker’s Army.

By Eric on Oct 7, 2019

  66. John Bonham was the best . Period.

By Tom on Oct 8, 2019

  67. Proof that a person can be a hateful serious asshole and live a good long time. RIP asshole.

By leesa on Oct 8, 2019

  68. I saw the great Peter “Ginger” Baker in late 70 -early 80 (I don’t remember) . His groups where “Ginger Baker’s Energy” and “Ginger Baker’s Nutter” .Quite good shows. I have a CD of the fantastic trio with Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden.OK…Blind Faith,Baker-Gurvitz army…but The Cream …pure Music.
