ELTON JOHN
Saturday Sun Sessions [no label, 1CD]

Demo sessions. July 1970. Very good soundboard.

Thanks to the original uploader; and to Hey Man for keeping the tracks alive at The Traders’ Den.

+ + + + +

These songs were recorded as demos to present the songs by these artists to other artists, to generate interest in covering them. These are excellent and not to be missed by fans of early Elton John. These songs fit right in with the albums “Elton John”, “Tumbleweed Connection” and “Madman Across the Water”. Tracks 1-7 feature Elton on lead vocals and piano; while tracks 8-11 feature Linda Peters (who became Linda Thompson, of Linda and Richard Thompson) on vocals and Elton on piano… These are the best quality of these songs that I have ever heard, and I have three different versions of this.

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (320 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

Pat Donaldson - bass
Simon Nicol - guitar (although it sounds like Caleb Quaye)
Others rumoured to appear are Nick Drake, John Martyn, Caleb Quaye, Roger Pope

  5. Elton at his early 70s best and the sound is very up front. Thanks again BigO for this rare treat!

  6. Great stuff Thanks Big O didn’t have these and look forward to checking them out especially as they contain songs by three heroes; John Martin Nick Drake and Mike Heron
    Thanks muchly!

Small point but you have credited ‘Go Out And Get’ as Mike Heron here and it is of course John Martin from ‘Stormbringer’ . . . . .

Thanks for all you bring to us!

  7. Did someone mention Frank Sinatra? Oh my god ‘ what a stud

By Ava Gardnr on Jul 25, 2019

  8. I was married to Frank for several years , and we had many problems, money , booze , cigarettes , depression, and Franks many affairs. The bedroom however was our saving grace . Not before or since has a man been able to satisfy and fill me up so completely. I can’t really blame those many other celebrity women . Frank only weighed 120 lbs but 100 of it was Dic.

By Ava Gardnr on Jul 25, 2019

  9. Frank was the complete opposite of Artie Shaw , one of my other many ex husbands . Artie was a pathetic little man who’s dic was smaller than my pinkie. What a loser .

By Ava Gardnr on Jul 25, 2019

  10. I always liked Elton Johns music ‘ I was a big disappointment to me the day I found out he was a motherfuckin queer . I remember when he gave that fuckin interview ‘ think it was 76 when he was the king of Rock at the time Think he had five or six albums in a row that hit Number one on the charts and all them hit singles. After he said he was queer his sales dropped and he was never the same star . He should have kept that shit quiet and to hisself. Decent folks don’t approve of queers who suck Dics.

By Derrick on Jul 25, 2019

  11. That was even a bigger deal than Bob Dylan being a mother fuckin jew bastard. I still listen to Bob but can’t bring myself to listen to queers .

By Derrick on Jul 25, 2019

  12. This site is amazing with the treasure trove of music and funny comments that start my day. Thanks to all behind the scenes. Ava Gardnr and Derrick sound like my old Marine buddies that would bust my chops before we loaded the chopper for a night run on our patrol.

  13. I have to agree with Derrick. Why does everyone have to know everything about someone’s private life ? Elton John fell from the top when he came out with his admission. Today’s world of social media nothing is private anymore.

By John on Jul 25, 2019

  14. I heard that Mick Jagger and David Bowie was dicsuckin queers . But that’s bullshit. They both had kids . Mick I think has 10 fuckin kids so I know he ain’t a fuckin queer .

By Derrick on Jul 25, 2019

  15. making babies doesnt prove one’s not gay derrick…just look at bruce jenner

By woodpeckerdeadwood on Jul 25, 2019

  16. Mick has got 10 fuckin kids that he knows bout motherfucker. He’s in his fuckin 70s and is still bangin smokin hot women in their 20s and 30s . I think he just had another kid with one of them hot young women

By Derrick on Jul 25, 2019

  17. David Bowie gots two kids too ‘ so I don’t believe them queer rumors. One is a high yeller with a coon woman though. He disappointed me with that shit

By Derrick on Jul 25, 2019

  18. I guess it ain’t as bad as a ape faced coon man with a white woman

By Derrick on Jul 25, 2019

  19. I love big ones “ I used to have a big one .

  20. Trump supporters are not only racist and lying treasonous dirtbags, but they also prove the noisier the homophobe, the flimsier the closet door.

By Barton Hall on Jul 25, 2019

  21. So Barton , do you have your Cortez / Towel head Omar bumper stickers yet ?

  24. This is great music–I had no idea that Linda Peters (Linda Thompson) recorded with Elton John, and the uncredited musicians on these tracks are excellent. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that these gems have gone unreleased, but they deserve to be remastered and released with full credits. Hearing Elton John sing a Nick Drake song -and singing it well-made my day.

By Eric on Jul 25, 2019

  25. This Barton guy sounds like a goddamned nigger lover. I personally don’t care for Trump , but he is a patriot and a true American

By Jerry Disher on Jul 25, 2019

  26. If you want to see a shit load of famous and talented players just look at the session players in Eltons 70’s albums you would be surprised

    By analogkid6103 on Jul 26, 2019

  27. @ Jerry Disher: “a patriot and true American” would not get phony “bone spur” draft deferments. Trump dissed many proven patriots, including John McCain, John Kerry and Navy Seals. Total loser.

By buster on Jul 26, 2019

  28. Buster , trump is an asshole but what are the alternatives ? Alexandra Cossio Cortez ? Joe Biden ? Bernie Sanders? Kamala Harris ? Elizabeth Warren ? That ISIS member Towel Head Omar ? That’s what’s out there

By HHH on Jul 26, 2019

  29. I was pissed off myself when Trump insulted McCain . He couldn’t carry McCains Jock

By HHH on Jul 26, 2019

  30. John Kerry did serve ‘ I’ll give him that but as a politician he’s a left wing loon like all the others i mentioned

By HHH on Jul 26, 2019

  31. His running mate was John Edwards ‘ that pretty boy who cheated on his terminally ill wife

By HHH on Jul 26, 2019

  32. The band details are incomplete as they don’t mention that Elton John plays the pink oboe.

By Ophelia Balls on Jul 27, 2019

  33. wow. this place is packed full of proud boy trump klan klowns! each one whining that they hate “queers” and each one rolling over, legs up, to get their back door plowed open by the neighborhood tranny police officer or priest. too bad they have to be so afraid of the world and actually refuse to appreciate good music or art because the artist scares their own manhood. jeezuz, wtf?
thanks for posting this stuff anyway! great!!

By Willard Da Realta on Aug 21, 2019

  34. I’m a huge fan of Elton’s early days. These are great. Like a lost album. Thank you.
