ROGER WATERS
Manchester 2018 [no label, 2CD]

Us + Them European Tour. Live at the Manchester Arena, Manchester, UK; July 3, 2018. Excellent audience recording.

Thanks to rbose1 for sharing the show at Dime.

rbose1 noted:

The lights dimmed and the show started with a video of a solitary woman sitting on a sand dune with her back turned to the camera looking out to sea. After 19 minutes the sky turned red and the show proper commenced. The woman reappeared in the video montages on and off throughout the show. An unexpected cheer towards the end of the intro indicated England had just gone 1:0 up against Colombia in the World Cup!

There was a 20-minute intermission between sets and the video screens continued the political rhetoric. At the start of the second set large screens descended from the roof in the centre of the arena and chimney stacks elongated from them to make a replica of Battersea power station. An inflatable pig then did a circuit of the arena. We were also buzzed by a flying refelctive orb and were showered with “Resist” confetti and lasers.

  2. Rog’s politics aren’t to everyone’s taste but his show and his band are first rate. Thank you, BigO.

  3. I saw Roger perform The Wall in its entirety. Hell of a show. Pink Floyd was like The Band-Floyd and Roger were not as good separate from one another, nor was Robbie Robertson and The Band without him.

  4. Thanks rbose1 for recording this so well and for sharing it with us. I was up in the Gods at the MEN Arena (not a favourite venue of mine at all) that night and had a reasonable good view of the stage until Battersea Power Station was inflated. The sound quality was incredible and the band performance very memorable. Unfortunately for me most of the people around me seemed to have paid big money to half watch the show and half watch the football on their mobiles and I had to ask one to my side to stop talking about the match so that I could enjoy the music. Your recording has filled in the gaps that I missed courtesy of Harry Kane & company at the World Cup so a big big thanks

  5. I try to separate an entertainers politics and character from their music and or acting ability etc . That’s why I can’t stand Springsteen’s constant Trump bashing and before that his Bush bashing similar to what the Dixie Chicks . Just shut up and sing and play. Music / Movies etc should be an escape from all the crap in the world . We get a dose of reality every time we turn on the news .

  6. Agree with Mark that Waters / Robertson etc while great were better in the.context of their respective bands . Floyd and Roger were both better together. By the way Wish you were here is my Favorite Floyd Album over Dark Side and The Wall .

  10. Speaking of big uns . When will we get some more Frank Sinatra shows ? I miss his mafia stories as well as the tales of his big Italian sausage.

  11. Hey U L E, what a sad lonely, miserable live you must lead. The same juvenile comment over and over. Ever hear of originality, Asshole?

  14. Thank you Big O Amigos. This will be just the right sound track to welcome fall to Thompson this weekend. Anybody know were I can download Mr. Waters and company performing his version of Echoes? Respectfully, James

    Thanks Big O.

  16. Not gay but straight. Gots a wife and kids ‘ just relaying rumors

  17. Hearing Roger Waters solo makes me appreciate Rick Wright, David Gilmour, and Nick Mason’s musical contributions to his lyrics. This is a greatest hits playlist with a few songs from his last album (which was a good one) but he’s made three other solo albums, a solo album, and a solo album in all but name (The Final Cut) and there aren’t any songs from them on his setlist.

Some artists (Woody Guthrie, for instance) are inseparable from their politics. I think Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young see their music that way. I think they also want to deny conservative/Trump voters a respite from criticism–they don’t want to create a safe place for them to forget the consequences of their political beliefs. If you want a comfortable place to ignore reality, try Fox News!

  18. It’s funny when you go to yahoo.com you see all this nonsense new like Ashley Olsen Wore a Huge Marc Jacobs Gown to Jennifer Lawrence’s Wedding.
    How about news like
    1. For myself….so the news would be. A man with a degree has to get 2nd job to pay off his car and bills because living in the world today sucks.
    2. The truth is unfolds…Roger waters ruined pink floyd and why Richard Wright was right.

if you read this far, then you are wearing the inside out.

  20. I’m holding out
    For the day
When Derrick, The Antichrist, HHH, Nelson, Jerry Disher, Der Furher, and Bill
    Have gone away.

  22. I suspect Bill to be one of the many heads of the Derrick hydra.

By Brian Griffin on Oct 25, 2019

  23. Don’t see it myself. He talks music . That’s like saying Sluggo and Sarge too . For me I would include U L E . Tiresome and boring as hell so repetitive.

By David on Oct 25, 2019

  24. ULE it’s difficult to believer you’re straight, what with your unrelenting obsession with dicks. If you are married and have kids,I’m guessing you are a total embarrassment to them all. you need to go find a new sandbox to play in.
