Glasgow 2018 [no label, 1CD]

BBC Radio Scotland “Quay Sessions”. Live at the Pacific Quay, Glasgow Scotland; May 31, 2018. Broadcast on May 31, 2018. Very good radio broadcast. Hosted by Roddy Hart.

Emily Barker is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and composer. She is perhaps best known as the writer and performer of the award-winning theme to BBC crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. With multi-instrumental trio The Red Clay Halo, she has recorded four albums. Her last solo album was Sweet Kind Of Blue, released in 2017. In March 2019, Barker and Marry Waterson released A Window To Other Ways.

The success of Sweet Kind Of Blue, with its seamless mix of soul, blues, country and folk influences, and the globe-trotting tours to support it helped land Barker the accolade of UK Artist of the Year at the 2018 UK Americana Awards held at Hackney Empire in London.

  4. Fabulous! Thanks Big O! Been following Emily’s work since first hearing her sing the theme tune to Wallender ( with Sir Kenneth Branagh) on the TV here and have bought everything since. she started off with the trio Red Clay Halo backing or accompanying her. She tours relentlessly here and I missed her set at my local record store in the summer. She is currently touring the UK with one of the Waterson/Carthy family clan in Merry. She deservedly won an Americana award last year (don’t quite get the Americana awards but hey she is still deserved of one anyway!) try ‘The River’ album as a place to start or you could do worse than download this. It will be a quality and unique experience, she sings with an ethereal haunting charm, has a strong voice and plays guitar beautifully. Thanks Big O - as ever this is what you do so well despite the ignorant trolls and idiots who don’t seem to care for music at all!
Hey ho! This is a great way to start the week :)

  5. Emily is a fine songwriter/performer - her album Dear River in 2014 was excellent - never had the chance to see her so this is consolation
