JETHRO TULL
Berlin 1972 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Deutschlandhalle, West Berlin, Germany; January 18, 1972. Fairly to very good audience recording. Goody Speed/Pitch-adjusted Remaster. Extra-Special EQ’d Edition.

Thanks to Goody; taper Jörg K; Krautbeard; DocTinker; Hanwaker and Spacebandit for sharing this show at Dime.

Goody noted:

With great respect - thanks to all involved in capturing, transfering and presenting the original source of this great evening of music!

I’ve taken the liberty of adjusting the speed/pitch to present it now in what I believe to be how this would’ve been heard in its conventional, proper tuning back then! The pitch was approx. 47 cents flat. I’ve countered that in an equally positive opposite direction, bringing it into harmony once again. Of course, I wasn’t able to do shit with the spots where the boys got real loud and the beautiful Telefunken microphone went, erm, brown… But that beautiful mic served its purpose well indeed when it WASN’T being taxed beyond its breaking point. Many of you already know that going into this here remaster. And now it’s up to speed.

This is a separate extra-special edition which reflects an attempt of mine to pull up a bit of bottom in order to fill the sound out nicely. IMHO, the extra presence of this one now definitely ‘benefits’ what’s was already a great listening experience, also making for a bit more of a full tone in the mids as well. There are still tons of highs - nothing has been taken away. Nothing to fear…

I’m usually not one to EQ my remasters. This was one that I think was worth sharing with you. I hope you like it too!

This is a Speed/Pitch-adjusted remaster of a source currently running here courtesy of ’spacebandit’, with my thanks to Jörg K for his fine recording.

I found these files to run rather slow/flat and have adjusted their speed/pitch as well as applied an EQ for this remastered edition in an attempt to bring out some of the more obscured frequencies I knew I could pull up. The slow source has no EQ.

Thanks to ethiessen1 for the sweet additional extra-special art.

This source is not new in circulation but for the first time complete and from the master-reel. Until now two common bootlegs featured 90 mins of the show (Playing by the Wall on Blue Cafe +Lord Snowdon loves Switzerland aka Back in Switzerland). Everything after “Nothing is easy” is new to circulation. My assumption for the incomplete bootleg is the running time of a C-90 cassette… which was traded out from Jörg back in the analog days…

Spacebandit noted:

Not only is this a gorgeous show from Jethro Tull at their peak, the recording is absolutely fantastic as well. A few minor distortions (hmm, could it be that they played LOUD?) don’t distract the ambience of an awesome clean tape. As a taper myself, I still wonder how dear Jörg managed to record in this amazing quality; I think none could’ve done it better with all our modern gear these days. A truly historical tape which had to be set free (for all) with no financial interest. All guys included here done it with our pure love for good music. Thank you Jörg, Doc Tinker, Krautbeard and Hanwaker (Technical Advisor). All worth the efforts and endless phonecalls. I’m very pleased with this.

Lineage:
Telefunken Magnetophon 302TS in 4-Track Mono using a Telefunken-Reportermikrofon TS300 recorded attached to a broom-stick at app. 2,40 meters height
Transfer (DocTinker 2013): Master Reel > Revox B77
> Pioneer PDR-05 CD-Recorder > CDR EAC > PC Krautbeard > WAV (16/44)
DocTinkers transfer runs about 1.3% faster than the bootlegs but I believe in his transfer speed >
Goody’s additional lineage: dBpoweramp (WAV) > Audition (Pitch Bender +47 cents; EQ) > TLH (FLAC Level 8, Align sector boundaries, .ffp) > foobar2000 (tags)

mastering 2019
+ hanwaker also ran a transfer of the master reel and kept all of the 1:05 of “historical before the show noise” which now has been added as the start of track01

+ DocTinker’s transfer [despite this being a mono recording] had both channels at different levels
To make a true Mono the louder channel was doubled

+ a 33 sec silence at the cut within Cross-eyed (shortly before the drum solo starts) was deleted
still a harsh transtion..missing music (reel change)

+ the former tracking had sb-errors > now fixed

finally new tracking applied as the Tomorrow-Hymn-Nothing part was untracked and Wind up to the end was wrongly tracked.

no EQ applied… just the raw transfer by doctinker adjusted

  8. Do you mean suck on his skin flute Mark ? Anderson is known as the Milty ( Uncle ) of Rock , I mean Coc .

    By C Tony on Jan 23, 2020

  9. This dude is hot in a kinky sort of way . I’m only 19 so I missed out on those groupie days of the 70s . But I would have been one if I had been around then . It amazes me how many rock stars had big penises. That would be such a turn on . My granddad was a Tull fan.

By Katie Kessler on Jan 23, 2020

  10. Herbrew Mark/ Russ is trying to stay in the closet . Not only is he a flaming Jew liberal, but a fag too.

By HHH on Jan 23, 2020

  11. Hey Anti , I’ll give this a listen . Tull in their heyday . Never cared for them much after aqualung though . Became more the Anderson show , similar to Alice Cooper becoming more of the Vince show after the original band broke up 72 was right after Clive Bunker left . Never thought fuckin Barlow was as good

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  12. not a bad show. i thought clive bunker was their drummer.and glenn cornick the bass player. ian was on the howard stern show years ago and stern said he smelled like a goat. i gave up on them early also. i only have benefit, aqualung and thick as a brick. not into bands with turnover

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 23, 2020

  13. I think thats Mark pretending to be Katie Kessler. Another one of his fake screen names. Pathetic Heeb homo

    By T J on Jan 23, 2020

  14. Don’t think that was mark tj That Katie Chick has been posting here for some time . Much longer than mark . She’s one of the many female nymphos’ that post here from time to time .

By Frank on Jan 23, 2020

  15. Anti , I’m with you . Don’t like bands that fuckin change personnel either . Didn’t really like thick as a brick . Aqualung was the last true Tull album in my opinion and the three before that . Benefit the best of the lot . Also liked Stand Up and This Was , their first album

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  16. As far as I is concerned. Alice Cooper was finished after Billion dollar babies in 73. . I had no more interest in seein the Vince show , Same with Tull , it became the Anderson show . Imagine the Stones without Keith or Zep without Page

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  17. Led Zep had the good sense to fuckin disband after Bonham died . Pete and Roger is still touring as The Who without moon and the ox . A fuckin joke

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  18. When you think about it Derrick, the best bands are the ones that have the same personnel. Stones, Zep The original Who. Bands that have constant turnover usually suc. Savoy Brown comes to mind. Deep Purple was never the same after Ritchie Blackmore left.

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 23, 2020

  19. I wont pay 81.00 to see half a Who. Not the same dynamic. Sabbath started to suck after Master of Reality. There 3 best albums are the first one, Paranoid and Master Reality. Vol IV was ok IMO

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 23, 2020

  20. I ended with Schools Out with Alice Cooper. Same with Grand Funk. The Red Album and Im Your Captain were their prime. Never cared for we’re an american band

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 23, 2020

  21. Anti for me Alice ended with billion dollar babies 73 . Was the last album where the band was still in place . Not as good as killer ‘ love it to death but not bad . After that Vince became Alice . No thanks

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  22. To me the Stones was never the same after Mick Taylor left in 74 . Also loved the Brian Jones era fore that . Never cared for Ronnie Wood in the Stones . Liked him with Rod Stewart and the faces though

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  23. Also Bill Wyman leavin in the nineties hurt . And original member . Only Mick ‘ Keith and Charlie left . Plus I hated all the backup singers that they started using

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  24. I did love Bobby Keys sax though. He really added a fuckin great sound to them early 70s great albums . He was also killer live . Check out the 72 and 73 tours

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  25. Bobby was like an unofficial member back then , also Jim Price on trumpet

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  26. Think Keith was a bad influence on Taylor. Too much dope for the boy . Very few could keep pace with Keith

By Derrick on Jan 23, 2020

  27. Anti , what did you think of Sabbath bloody Sabbath from 74 ? Used to listen to it some back in the day . Ozzy was still there then . Didn’t like em when Ronnie Dio joined them

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  28. Hey guys , interesting discussion. Vince Furiner breaking up the Alice Cooper band and then calling himself Alice Cooper is the epitome of egomainia. Can you imagine Robert Plant deciding to call himself Led Zeppelin after the band broke up ?

By CJ on Jan 24, 2020

  29. OMG - I find myself actually agreeing with a lot of Derrick’s musical comments today !!
When they talk racism, sports… bollocks!!

    By E L U on Jan 24, 2020

  30. I stopped with Sabbath with Vol 4. Best songs on the album supernaut and snowblind. Never listened to Sabbath bloody sabbath. Dont care for Ronnie Dio either. Same with Deep Purple, I didnt care for them once Ian Gillan left

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 24, 2020

  31. I agree with you that the best years of the stones was with Mick Taylor. To me their heyday was Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Exile. I thought Some Girls was too commercial. I actually like undercover. Bigger Bang and Blue and Lonesome are excellent also IMO

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 24, 2020

  32. Sabbath bloody sabbath wasn’t bad . The title song , and killing your self to live was real good . But I’m with you , Vol 4 was just OK , snowblind good song . The first three sabbath albums was the best . Paranoid was the most famous and sold the most . Loved Iron man , the song paranoid and Faries wear boots

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  33. To me Master of reality was their best fuckin album . Sweet leaf , Children of the grave ‘ After Forever all fuckin metal heaven

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  34. Anti , after forever was the first sabbath song I ever heard . It fuckin blew me away at the time . They used to play it on FM back in 71 72 . Zeps Black dog was also played at the same time . Master of Realty and Led Zep IV was released close to the same time . Fuckin heaven

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  35. My favorite Stones album was Sticky Fingers. The year 71 of course . Was that the best fuckin year for music or what ? Zep IV Master of Reality ‘ Who’s Next Aqualung, All came out that year

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  36. So did the Cactus album one way or another

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  37. The James gang had an album out too . With Joe Walsh , Walk away was the hit single

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  38. Sticky Fingers had Brown Sugar, Sway , Wild horses , Can’t you hear me knocking, Bitch , Sister Morphine , I got the blues , dead flowers , moonlight Mile . A motherfuckin Rock masterpiece.

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  39. Antichrist and Derrick, Black ape niggers brawl during the Kansas Kansas state basketball game . The college version of the malace in the palace . Niggers being niggers . The black apes or coons as Derrick likes to call them have no control over their violent and sxual impulses. Send them back to the jungles of Africa.

By HHH on Jan 24, 2020

  40. HHH, did you see that one nigger with the chair. WTF is that? If the coach didnt pull it away he could of done some serious harm. Goddamn baboons. They cant control their tempers.

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 24, 2020

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  46. Anti I still prefer sticky fingers. Exile great though . Goats head soup from 73,gets trashed a lot cause it came after the 4 best stones albums ever Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed , Sticky Fingers and Exile , but Goats Head had some real good shit . Angie , Silver Train , Starfucker , Dancing with Mr D , doo doo doo hearbreaker. Comin down again , Winter . Underated album . They did one more with Mick Taylor. Only Rock and roll before he left and Ron Wood took his place

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  47. Get your ya yas out sounds like a great live album from the 69 tour , but I found out it was full of fuckin overdubs. Most of the vocals and some of the playin was redone in the fuckin studio

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  48. They didn’t need to do that shit cause they played great that tour . Got several great sounding boots

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  49. Antichrist I missed the chair part , but you’re right , someone could have been seriously hurt or worse , black ape savages

By HHH on Jan 24, 2020

By HHH on Jan 24, 2020

  51. Yeah man its real quick. If the announcer didnt mention it, I would of missed it also. THe guy raised the chair over his head and was ready to smash some white guy but the coach grabbed it from him. its real quick. I agree niggers are quick to use violence, jews will siphon all your money through ponzi scams

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jan 24, 2020

  53. Anti , thanks man , that Sticky Fingers alternative shit is fuckin great . That special anniversary edition came out bout three years ago but couldn’t afford the $180.00 price tag at the time . The Leeds 71 show is also in the box set and I was able to download it thru one of them MP3 download song engines . The bootleg version has been out there for years called get your Leeds lungs out but the first two songs was missing. Jumpin Jack Flash and Live with me . The official has them first two songs . Blows ya yas away . Hope it was released without overdubs

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  54. A bit of controversy concerning the fuckin album cover . Heard two things . Some say the guy with the big pants bulge is Jagger , but others said it was Andy Warhol’s bud a male model . Jagger was asked and grinned and said it was him . But that might have been Mick bein Mick . Bullshitin us

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  55. Maybe the photo was of Keith . He is rumored to have a big one . Right U L E ? He said in his book that Mick has a small one .

By Scaromouch on Jan 24, 2020

  56. The cover of Sticky Fingers is Joe Dallesandro, well documented in the art world. You do all get that the Keith reference to Mick is a joke right? There is photographic evidence to the contrary and he was never shy . . . . . . . juss sayin’

  63. Yeah Anti , looks like age is catching up to Serena . The coon baboon

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  64. Miss the days of Crissie , Martina , Billie Jean King

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  65. Serena never had no competition, Crissie and Martina was always playin each other in the finals

By Derrick on Jan 24, 2020

  66. Derriere- If “Serena never had no competition” that would mean she had competition. “Playing” ends in the letter “g.” You should put a comma at after the word “finals.” Just more proof (as if any were needed) of how highly uneducated you are.

Your alter ego, HHH, seems a little more educated, at least grammar-wise.

By Mark on Jan 25, 2020

  67. Mark you motherfuckin Dic suckin jew bastard. What the fuck do you know bout tennis or any sports for that matter. You was the wimpy nerd wit glasses that nobody picked to play ball with

By Derrick on Jan 25, 2020

  68. I’m sorry , I have to set the record straight. The rumors are very true Mick Jagger has a very small Coc and Keith has a giant Coc . I should know . I had many backstage experiences with both of them .

  72. Is there a white supremacist website that discusses music?

By Scar Rad on Jan 28, 2020

  73. Scar Rad- Derrick and “friends” post here because they’ve been kicked out of every moderated website on the planet (or he/they avoided moderated websites for ear of being reported)

They claim freedom of speech, but hate speech is not protected.

Who knows, maybe they are on a government watch list.

By Mark on Jan 29, 2020

  74. Brian- I’m not the grammar police, it was just one more thing to jab Derriere about. His skin is so thin it doesn’t take much to make him cry.

By Mark on Jan 29, 2020

  75. Scar Rad has been posting here for years , always about music . Mark you are indeed an asshole.

  78. George- Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit, is it? My post said, “Derrick and “friends” post here because they’ve been kicked out of every moderated website on the planet (or he/they avoided moderated websites for ear of being reported)

They claim freedom of speech, but hate speech is not protected.

Who knows, maybe they are on a government watch list.”

I addressed it to Scar Rad in answer to his question, “Is there a white supremacist website that discusses music?”

By Mark on Jan 29, 2020

  79. You should apologize to Scar Rad . Everyone is tired of your self righteous act . Like tj said, go away
