DR JOHN
with Irma Thomas, Cyril Neville, Walter Wolfman Washington
New Orleans 2011 [no label, 2CD]

Voodoo Music Experience. WWOZ stage, New Orleans, LA; October 30, 2011. Very good FM broadcast.

Dr John passed away on June 6, 2019 after suffering a heart attack. He was 77.

Thanks to trouts for sharing the show at Dime.

trouts noted:

The broadcast started several minutes earlier than WWOZ had announced, so my FM broadcast starts late. The first 6:08 of this recording is from the mp3 livestream source; the FM source begins about 54 seconds into John Gris. There is another splice of about 4 seconds from the mp3 source about 1:55 into John Gris.

In order to remove a station ID/DJ interruption, 15.7 seconds was removed about 5:16 into Indians Got That Fire (no music was affected).

  2. The Doctor is in. Thank you BigO!

  3. Almost saw the good Doctor at Jazz Fest in 2016. He was on before Stevie Wonder but had to run off the stage as a literal MONSOON hit the race track where they were having the show. Stevie came on literally for about five minutes, sang Purple Rain, did a couple of small things with some local bands and left town. He returned on a beautiful sunny day the next year. How does New Orleans live without its delicious food and wonderful music?

  8. Admittedly this is minor, but it’s actually “I Walk on Guilded Splinters,” not gilded. The name you listed may make more sense, but it’s inaccurate.

  9. derrick, the black apes are now acting just like you would expect. Violently. They can’t help it . Genetically predisposed. Buildings being set on fire , fights in the streets . Black apes being black apes . The officers acted like professionals. They should be given promotions, instead they’ll probably go to prison.

  14. Got to see the DR at Grace Potter’s Grand Point North Festival 14 SEP 2014. I got a great recording of his set. He did not allow me to get a board recording. But he let me place my SONY PCM-M10 on his Piano top for a great recording.

  15. “Hello my friends, So happy to see you again.” This is a Music site. Listening to Doctor John has wonderful value. However, what has NO value is the grotesque, insecure cuckoo birds, masquerading as people, who have debilitating psychiatric issues - with Blacks, Jews, Muslims, Gays and other minorities. They exhibit a range of unstable sociopath qualities having - but not limited to: Extensive Antisocial Problems. Simply referred to as: “Clinical Inability To Think.” Symptoms include: Bias, Predispose, Indoctrinate, and Exaggerate. They Don’t dig words like “Community”, “Justice”, “Civility”, and “Impartiality”. It IS staunchly urged that they seek immediate comprehensive Medical attention. While Unlikely, with generous amounts of remedial tutoring they May learn “manners” through an advanced concept called “Understanding.” However, Scientific tests consistently show a .00001% chance of their acquiring comprehensive brain activity leading to possible intellect through “attention” span. Further please note: Recent data reveals implausible acumen or “Grasping” as in grasping an “idea.” Finally, a Compassionate Note regarding these non-music cuckoo birds: Exhaustive, yet methodical reports acknowledge Actual evidence their bed wetting episodes may be moderately regulated w/a gentle anally provided enema.
Remember: We, as Music Lovers, will be Here - Long, Long (ie Long) after their deteriorating brain washed condition collapses. Heaven Research: “Pointing their plastic finger at me
They’re hoping soon my kind will drop and die
But I’m gonna wave my freak flag high, high
    Wave on, wave on”

  16. What harmon said . . . . . . . . . :)

Thanks for the good Doctor! We always need some more Mac!
Just a small point of reference but Mac used both spellings and gilded is the meaning and ‘guilded’ as in several printed versions is an archaic spelling of the meaning so ‘gilded’ is correct . . . . just sayin’

Thanks also for the re-up of the Bobby feat. Bucky Baxter, another good man gone. Great pedal steel player, great multi-intrumentalist in fact.
Thanks Big O for all you make available to us. As ever

Do consider turning the comments off tho’ . . . . . . . it stopped being funny a LONG time ago now

  20. Thanks for the Doctor ! much appreciated. but hey These people(?) with comments about their little things and the Black people ,Jews… Big O why not start a page for these people of small minds and body parts, you can even call it “small o”. lets keep it about the music.

  21. In 1994 in Devore, CA, I saw a blues fest with The Muddy Waters Blues Band. Muddy had passed by then but this was his old band. Dr.John. Little Feat (sans Lowell)and BB King. I went with my brother-in-law & his young nephew & his dad who was in his mid 70’s. He had seen BB on TV and said he’d like to go. So three generations of us spent the day into evening enjoying the groove. Good times!
