JD SOUTHER
Chicago 2019 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the City Winery, Chicago, ILL; March 3, 2019. Fairly to very good audience recording.

Singer-songwriter JD Souther is probably best known for his well-honed writing abilities, especially in the field of country rock. He co-wrote some of the biggest hits for the Eagles, including Best Of My Love, Victim Of Love, Heartache Tonight, and New Kid in Town. He wrote Run Like A Thief, which appeared on Home Plate by Bonnie Raitt in 1975. Souther dated Linda Ronstadt briefly, co-produced her Don’t Cry Now album, and wrote songs for several of her multi-platinum albums. - wikipedia

“”Hanging out in the bar at the Troubadour with Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne and playing open mike Mondays, then opening for Poco and The Flying Burrito Brothers - it was the best study in songwriting I can imagine… It’s also where I met Linda Ronstadt and where Don Henley and Glenn Frey met to form this little country rock band called Eagles that would go on to make musical history.” - jdsouther.net

Thanks to analog4011 for sharing the show at Dime.

analog4011 noted:

First time seeing him. I liked this one. I was sent to both early and late shows. This late set has more songs and he was in a better mood. Karla Bonoff was the opener and she joined in on his sets. It cranks on that good stereo without the (ouch turn it down syndrome).

  2. The voice wavers a bit, but the songs stay up. Remember hearing You’re Only Lonely my senior year in high school and how much he sounded like Roy Orbison. Glad he is still around and making music. Thanks for the show, Bigo!

By CJ on Jul 3, 2020

  24. Do you feel overwhelmed by the destructive power of racism, but unsure of what to do about it? The good news is, while the scope of racism in the U.S. might be vast, progress is possible. Step-by-step and piece-by-piece, we can work to end racism, but to begin this work, we must truly understand what racism is. First, review how sociologists define racism, then consider ways that each of us can work to end it.

By HHH on Jul 3, 2020

  25. Sociologists see racism in the U.S. as systemic; it is embedded in every aspect of our social system. This systemic racism is characterized by unjust enrichment of white people, unjust impoverishment of people of color, and an overall unjust distribution of resources across racial lines (money, safe spaces, education, political power, and food, for example). Systemic racism is made up of racist ideologies and attitudes, including subconscious and implicit ones that might even seem well-meaning.

By Derrick on Jul 3, 2020

  26. It is a system that grants privileges and benefits to whites at the expense of others. This system of social relations is perpetuated by racist world views from positions of power (in the police or news media, for example), and alienates people of color who are subordinated, oppressed, and marginalized by such forces. It is the unjust costs of racism born by people of color, like denial of education and employment, incarceration, mental and physical illness, and death. It is a racist ideology that rationalizes and justifies racist oppression, like the media narratives that criminalize victims of police and vigilante violence, like George Floyd, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and Freddie Gray, as well as many others.

By David Duke on Jul 3, 2020

  27. To end racism, we must combat it everywhere it lives and thrives. We must confront it in ourselves, in our communities, and in our nation. No one person can do it all or do it alone, but we can all do things to help, and in doing so, work collectively to end racism.
Listen to, validate, and ally with people who report personal and systemic racism. Most people of color report that whites do not take claims of racism seriously. It’s time to stop defending the idea of a post-racial society, and recognize instead that we live in a racist one. Listen to and trust those who report racism, because anti-racism begins with having basic respect for all people.

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jul 3, 2020

  28. Have hard conversations with yourself about the racism that lives within you. When you find yourself making an assumption about people, places, or things, challenge yourself by asking whether you know the assumption to be true, or if it is something you have simply been taught to believe by a racist society. Consider facts and evidence, especially those found in academic books and articles about race and racism, rather than hearsay and “common sense.”
Be mindful of the commonalities that humans share, and practice empathy. Do not fixate on difference, though it is important to be aware of it and its implications, particularly in terms of power and privilege. Remember that if any kind of injustice is allowed to thrive in our society, all forms can. We owe it to each other to fight for an equal and just society for all.

By Nelson on Jul 3, 2020

  29. Learn about the racism that occurs where you live, and do something about it by participating in and supporting anti-racist community events, protests, rallies, and programs.

By Der Fuhrer on Jul 3, 2020

  30. Cross the racial divide (and others) by offering friendly greetings to people, regardless of race, gender, age, LBGTQ, ability, class, or housing status. Think about who you make eye contact with, nod to, or say “Hello” to while you are out in the world. If you notice a pattern of preference and exclusion, shake it up. Respectful, friendly, everyday communication is the essence of community.

By Coon Daddy on Jul 3, 2020

  31. If you see something, say something. Step in when you see racism occurring, and disrupt it in a safe way. Have hard conversations with others when you hear or see racism, whether explicit or implicit. Challenge racist assumptions by asking about supporting facts and evidence (in general, they do not exist). Have conversations about what led you and/or others to have racist beliefs.

By Billy on Jul 3, 2020

  32. Support voter registration and polling in neighborhoods where people of color live because they have historically been marginalized from the political process.
Donate time and/or money to community organizations that serve the youth of color.
Mentor white kids on being anti-racist citizens who fight for justice.
Support post-prison programs, because the inflated incarceration rates of black and Latino people lead to their long-term economic and political disenfranchisement.

By Black Lives Matter on Jul 3, 2020

  33. Advocate for Affirmative Action practices in education and employment. Countless studies have found that qualifications being equal, people of color are rejected for employment and admission to educational institutions at far greater rates than white people. Affirmative Action initiatives help mediate this problem of racist exclusion.

By Mark on Jul 3, 2020

  34. Vote for candidates who make ending racism a priority and vote for candidates of color. In our federal government, people of color remain underrepresented. For a racially just democracy to exist, we must achieve accurate representation, and the governing representatives must actually represent the experiences and concerns of our diverse populace.

By HHH on Jul 3, 2020

  35. Write to senators and members of Congress and demand an end to racist practices in law enforcement, the judiciary, education, and the media.
Advocate for national legislation that would criminalize racist police practices and institute ways to monitor police behavior, like body cameras or independent investigations.

By Jerry Disher on Jul 3, 2020

  36. Whether it’s your work colleagues, teammates, your children or extended family, one way to change hearts and minds is to listen. When we stop talking and start listening, we validate others’ feelings and emotions. And, we may find opportunities to educate.

For instance, “People will say, my kids don’t see color, and kind of wear that as a badge of honor,” says psychologist Gipson. But if a white person says this to a black person, it can be offensive. And, though it may be well-intended, the idea that people are colorblind is false.

“All kids, even infants, discern differences in race,” Gipson says. “It also invalidates people of color who have a ‘lived experience’ that is not like their white counterparts,” she explains. People don’t want important parts of their identity to be erased, they want to be recognized and respected for the entirety of their person.

By THE ANTICHRIST on Jul 3, 2020

  37. By now, we know what happened to George Floyd who died after a US police officer kneeled on his neck.

His tragic death has sparked worldwide protests against racism and police violence. The protests have moved US lawmakers to introduce a bill to end excessive use of force by police. In the UK and Belgium, statues of racist colonial figures were removed. And films and TV shows that promote racism have been dropped.

The police killing of George Floyd as bystanders watched shows us how the US struggles with racism. But structural racism is not exclusive to the US. Like the COVID-19 pandemic we’re currently facing, racism is present in every nook and corner of this planet.

As we must work together in combating COVID-19, we must also curb racism globally.

  47. Kneeling during the national anthem is a form of peaceful protest started by black American professional football player Colin Kaepernick in August 2016, as an attempt to call attention to the police shootings of unarmed black Americans that had given rise to the Black Lives Matter movement in 2013. As more athletes in other sports followed suit, the reaction from the sports establishment, politicians, and the public triggered an ongoing debate over racial inequality and police brutality throughout the United States.

By Billy on Jul 4, 2020

  49. Kneeling during the U.S. national anthem is a personal expression of protest against perceived social or political injustices most closely associated with black American professional football player Colin Kaepernick.
Other manners of protesting during the national anthem date to World Wars I and II, and the Vietnam War.

By HHH on Jul 4, 2020

  50. Sympathetic to the Black Lives Matter movement, Kaepernick began kneeling in 2016 as a protest against shootings of unarmed black Americans by police.
During the 2017 professional football season, as many as 200 other players were observed taking a knee.
U.S. President Donald Trump criticized professional athletes who protest in this way, calling for them to be fired.

By David Duke on Jul 4, 2020

  51. The practice of using the national anthem as a stage for political and social protest is far from new. Long before kneeling, or “taking a knee” replaced it, simply refusing to stand during the national anthem became a common manner of protesting against the military draft during World War I. In the years before World War II, refusal to stand for the anthem was used as a protest to the growth of dangerously aggressive nationalism. Even then, the act was highly controversial, often resulting in violence.

  78. David , actually do respect tiger somewhat for not allowing himself to be used by the black ape radicals . Like Jordan he won’t play their games .

By HHH on Jul 4, 2020

  79. The fact is we all must support voter registration and polling in neighborhoods where people of color live because they have historically been marginalized from the political process.
Donate time and/or money to community organizations that serve the youth of color.
Mentor white kids on being anti-racist citizens who fight for justice.
Support post-prison programs, because the inflated incarceration rates of black and Latino people lead to their long-term economic and political disenfranchisement.

  81. Not true triple h. The time has come for us to change. Racism, xenophobia and intolerance are problems prevalent in all societies. But every day, each and every one of us can stand up against racial prejudice and intolerant attitudes. Be a human rights champion, #fightracism and #Standup4humanrights. Please join me.

  82. White power is a failed ideology. I am ashamed that I was ever involved in those organizations. Black Lives Matter is the one movement in the country, no dare I say THE WORLD that has depth and weight. I am, from this day forward committed to racial justice and equality for all.

  84. Anti was a loser. His fat ass croaked from a heart attack. I’m here now to speak truth. For America to end racism, we must combat it everywhere it lives and thrives. We must confront it in ourselves, in our communities, and in our nation. No one person can do it all or do it alone, but we can all do things to help, and in doing so, work collectively to end racism.

  86. David , if that’s you . I’ve just been reading this bullshit . This is my first post here . Bunch of nigger lovers here . They own the damn country anyway . We don’t have to like it , even if we can’t do anything about it .

  87. These people that keep using our names are asshole cowards . They can’t even sign their own names .

By Nelson on Jul 4, 2020

  88. It’s bad enough that the niggers are taking over the country. They want to rub white peoples noses in it . They expect us to like it . Well fuck them all .

By Nelson on Jul 4, 2020

  89. Nelson , they want to wipe us out completely. That’s why the apes keep breeding with our white women . To spread the black ape gene .

By HHH on Jul 4, 2020

  90. The truth is hate speech is often used to dehumanize already marginalized groups and individuals, exacerbating discrimination and inciting violence. It is an attack on the very essence of human rights and an affront to us all.

Hatred against the LGBTI community is perpetrated by people of all kinds, including religious and political leaders, and amplified through both traditional and social media. Too often, there is no real protection. On the contrary; in many places LGBTI people face prosecution and punishment for their orientation or gender identity.

This all must change. I am committed to ending hatred and hate speech.

By David Duke on Jul 4, 2020

  91. I am scared to death of change. How can I feel superior with no one to hate? I am so small and insignificant. I can only feel self respect by feeling better than others even though I know I am inferior. My self esteem is nonexistent.

By HHH on Jul 4, 2020

  92. I feel so amazingly good when I sit here and spew my words of hate toward those I want to believe are below me. But in the final analysis, I find it is I who is lesser and small. I find that I am lower than the meanest creature crawling the earth. I wish I could be man enough to ask God to help me.

By HHH on Jul 4, 2020

  93. Like Gene Debs said, “While there is a lower class, I am in it, while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.” The failure of the white power movement leaves me here at this juncture. I will never be free until all men are equal is the sight of all men.

By David Duke on Jul 4, 2020

  94. Come on triple h. No one wants to ‘wipe you out.’ You are so insignificant and worthless the Movement afoot today is not even aware you exist. Your only means of expression for your hate is here…on the backside of a music and political sharing blog. And even the other racists here really don’t like you.

By Nelson on Jul 4, 2020

  97. Derrick told me and I believe racism in the U.S. is systemic; it is embedded in every aspect of our social system. Things must change.

  103. “Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt all deeply understood the revered responsibility of the Presidency, and each played a pivotal role in preserving our Republic. Donald Trump, in contrast, shirks his oath of office, constantly shifts blame to disguise his incompetence, and uses his position to further divide the American people,” said Reed Galen, co-founder of The Lincoln Project.

As the nation reckons with a complicated legacy regarding historical monuments, Trump need not worry that any of his will be sullied in the future. He’s already irreparably tarnished his legacy and will only be remembered for his countless failures, and the damage he’s done to America and its people.

By Dennis Kitchens on Jul 4, 2020

  111. David Duke is alive and tweeting, and though he may have been pushed out of the conventional political arena, the same can’t be said for his ideology. In eastern Washington, State Representative Matt Shea forwarded an email from a group training young men in “biblical warfare,” and he was found to have participated in “domestic terrorism” in a report comissioned by the Washington State house of representatives. Meanwhile, President Trump recently retweeted (and later deleted) a video that contains a supporter yelling “White Power!”

All of which points to the grave reality that the problem of white supremacy will persist in this country. The former Klansman does not represent a meteor narrowly missing Earth, nor the current president a national anomaly, but a core aspect of the nation’s psyche that needs to be managed with constant vigilance.

There are many white power morons that post on unmoderated blogs pretending to be David Duke. Most of them are obviously not. Being low intelligence racists they are certainly as evil nut not nearly as eloquent.

  128. Actually Asian Americans , Indians and other races in America rarely socialize with whites . They want our money , not our women .

By HHH on Jul 5, 2020

  129. They usually have their own communities in America, even after being here for decades . The black apes are the only ones who try and spread their seeds , by forcing themselves upon us by impregnating our mudsharks. The black ape males only want to stick it to whitey , and the white sluts have low self esteem and a touch of penis curiosity.

By HHH on Jul 5, 2020

  130. I’ve rarely witnessed Asians out to dinner with whites , likewise Indians from India . They only want to take over our economy, by buying up everything in sight . Not breed with our whores . Black apes are the only ones doing this . This is what the white segregationists warned would happen back in the 1960s as Lyndon Baines Johnson was signing all of his civil rights bills. They were right .

By HHH on Jul 5, 2020

  131. You can usually tell a mudshark white slut by the heavy makeup she wears to try and hide the bruises from being beaten and battered by their black ape boyfriend’s and husbands . Black ape males are genetically predisposed to violence . In other words , you can take the ape out of the jungle, but the jungle remains in the ape .
