THE BANGLES
Amsterdam 1985 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Melkweg, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; February 16, 1985. Fairly to very good FM broadcast.

The Bangles combined the chiming riffs and catchy melodies of British Invasion guitar pop with a hint of the energy of new wave. In the process, they became one of the handful of all-female bands of the ’80s to win both critical and commercial success. Theirs is a rags-to-riches story, from the band’s beginnings in LA’s Paisley Underground scene through their reign as chart-topping, record-breaking, smart-pop princesses of the ’80s, through their 1989 breakup and 1999 reunion. As the band themselves put it: “If you can survive success, you can survive anything.”

In 2005, longtime bassist Michael Steele elected to retire from the band, but drummer Debbi Peterson, and guitarists Susanna Hoffs and Vicki Peterson continue on.
