BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Philadelphia 1976 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; October 27, 1976. Fairly good soundboard.

Thanks to original uploader lilpanda; and to ademotte for keeping the show alive at Dime.

ademotte noted:

This has never been one of the best-sounding Springsteen soundboards, but it always seems to find its way into every Bruce fan’s collection. This particular version was posted by “lilpanda” in March 2008, and is the first and only time I’ve seen it with documented lineage - there have been various bootlegs over the years which are probably sourced from higher-generation, more questionable sources than this. I can’t compare the quality across the various releases, but this was certainly an improvement over the cassette I traded for in the 1990s. Hopefully this will be an upgrade for some.

In terms of setlist, I think this is a pretty typical performance, although as lilpanda pointed out in the original posting, this is an unusual soundboard version of the cover “Fine, Fine Girl.”

  2. Bruce opened for Chicago in March 1973 and was booed off the stage. He swore he would never play a big roo, like the Spectrum again. Three years later came this show at what was then called the Spectrum Theater, a curtained off section making for a more intimate show. But as it turned out, only the Greateful Dead and the Beach Boys would play more Spectrum shows than Bruce. Thanks for this show; there are better soundboards but this sounds fine. Imagine a Bruce show ending with a ballad!

  4. Thanks Big O…for a mid-1970’s show, the sound is just fine. Back in the day, saw many of his shows at the Spectrum.

  11. Thank you for sharing this one. I saw The Promise in the setlist as a closer so I had to get this.
