NEIL YOUNG
Holes In The Archives Volume 1 [A Rustie Petey Production, 1CD]

Collection of rarities.

The release of Neil Young’s Archives box set in 2009 is hardly the be all and end all of the Neil Young catalogue. To fill some of the gaps, punkdavid has put out his own compilation.

punkdavid notes:

This fan-made compilation is the result of over a year of planning, editing, writing, researching, and assembling and was done as a labor of love.

On this first anniversary of the release of Neil Young’s Archives Vol. 1, I present a collection of recordings, some live and some studio, that are meant to supplement the officially released material with high-quality, and otherwise important recordings from Neil Young’s career up to 1972. Every effort was made to emulate the style and standards displayed in The Archives in filling the “Holes”.

The selected recordings are limited to unreleased songs, or live or studio recordings of songs that are otherwise unreleased with the given musicians. For example, there is a studio recording of “Everybody’s Alone” with Crazy Horse released on The Archives, but this set contains a studio recording with CSNY. Also, there is a live recording of “Sea Of Madness” with CSNY released on The Archives, but this set contains a studio recording with CSNY.

Music fan Philip Cohen chips in: “This compilation is taken from previous bootlegs, including Buffalo Springfield - Sell Out; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Studio Archive 1969; Neil Young - Touch The Clouds and the mono mix of Buffalo Springfield - Again.”

Thanks to punkdavid for sharing the lossless tracks and artwork on Demonoid.

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (these are high quality MP3s - sample rate of 320 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

  8. Thank You for the Neil Young hard to find songs. Hopefully, theres more early studio stuff (not “live”) to be found. Thanks again.

  9. It’s been sort of fun to be a Neil fan lately. His first and best solo lps have been remastered and the compilations of rare stuff on here have been great. After all these years the new stuff is a little bit of a letdown. I’m really starting to listen to Neil again.Makes me miss early days for sure. Phil

  10. hey BigO, thanks for offering these with 320 kbps. I know it’s a problem of bandwith and server capacity, but I would appreciate if you could do this more often or always.

  11. This looks great, but to tell you the truth, it could run to 90 editions and I just don’t have the space or time to listen to it all … sorry to the uploader, but, hey, your generosity is overwhelming me! Cheers. Ps .. Like the covers, too.

  15. Thanks Big O for this smashing gathering of Neil’s earliers songs. Very good sound quality-I agree with Walter. It would be nice to have more 320 kbps, but, nevertheless, thanks for your work and generosity.
