JAZZ ON SUNDAY: YOUN SUN NAH - BELGIUM 2021

Fifty years ago today, Beatle George told us that All Things Must Pass. Then he told us about Living in the Material World. For 36 years, BigO has been trying to keep the spirit and history of the music alive. Before all things pass, we still need your help to live in this material world. You can help us to do this with a kind donation. Please give what you are happy to give…

With her universal yet individual style Youn Sun Nah gives traditional vocal jazz a new flavour, while unconventionally and effortlessly exploring new exciting spaces. It is the precision of her intonation and phrasing, great timing and crystal voice that enable her to turn minimalistic forms into powerful emotions, pure elegance and magic. “A miracle“, “enchanting”, “a world-class singer” - just some of the overwhelmingly positive responses from the international press about the Korean singer who is one of the most outstanding representatives of vocal jazz today.

“She sings with balls, sometimes with a ripping sound, and she conjures all kinds of sounds from her hat”, wrote the Dutch magazine Jazzism last year after the appearance of Youn Sun Nah at North Sea Jazz. “Clearly a voice artist of exceptional class.” Well, she also brings that class to Jazz Middelheim. Both Pat Metheny and John McLaughlin are fans.

Throughout the seasons, her voice and personality have marked the minds and hearts of people around the world. Between 2009 and 2015, Youn Sun Nah gave about 500 concerts around the world, most of which were sold out. On February 23, 2014, she made a stop in Sochi to sing at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics.
