HERBIE HANCOCK QUARTET
Chicago 1981 [no label, 1CD]

Chicago Jazz Festival. Chicago, Illinois; September 2, 1981. Very good FM broadcast.

Thanks to glasnostrd19 for sharing the show at Dime.

Some Herbie is good, some is really good. This is in the latter category. Only one complaint with this broadcast set. It’s too short. They must have played more than this in the show. Great band, nice performance, this was all that was broadcast. The first song must have cut in abruptly, since it cuts in. I don’t think more than a few seconds is missing from the broadcast. The reception is clean, and the show includes some classic Herbie songs. I had to splice this tape because it broke awhile ago, but it played through without a problem, and the splice was during applause, so I didn’t even notice it, hopefully you won’t either. A little more Tony is better than no more, even better with Herbie. - Ian

  12. Thanks BigO. its a pleasure to hear a very young Wynton Marsalis and to hear the brilliant and far too short-lived Tony Williams in a different context (than Miles’ bands or his own recordings). Recordings of great musicians always appreciated!

  15. It’s a good thing Rittenhouse was acquitted. The way he cries like a little girl, he would have been very popular in prison.

  17. HHH I’m glad you agree with me about Rittenhouse.

  18. Name stealer on that last one , but yeah the kid Rittenhouse is a punk who never should have been there in the first place . Where the hell were the responsible parents ? Now he and those crappy parents will turn the fame and notoriety into a cash cow , interviews, talk shows , probably a book and TV movie . Disgusting. Fear of prison along with black ape diks in his face , mouth and asshole was written all over his face when he was crying like a baby .

By HHH on Nov 22, 2021

  19. That said BLM are a bunch of hypocrites and thugs , a terrorist organization who deserve what they get . The 2 assholes the kid killed were criminals, one a child molester. They got what they deserved, no tears for them .
