This is a tribute show to Roger Miller and his music. Roger Dean Miller Sr (January 2, 1936 - October 25, 1992) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actor, widely known for his honky-tonk-influenced novelty songs and his chart-topping country and pop hits “King of the Road”, “Dang Me”, and “England Swings”, all from the mid-1960s Nashville sound era.

tampabay.com, 1998:

What becomes the King of the Road most?

A rollicking, music-filled salute would be the ticket, and TNN’s Roger Miller Remembered succeeds frequently in honoring the late singer-songwriter. Most musical specials are lucky to have one boffo performance. The concert has three. The Mavericks offer a beautiful rendition of Invitation to the Blues with help from Ray Price. John Goodman brings Broadway bravado and hip-rolling enthusiasm to Guv’ment, which took Miller just two hours to write. Trisha Yearwood, backed by the Fisk Jubilee Singers, soars through The Crossing.

The special has other fine moments: Willie Nelson’s heartfelt performance of When Two Worlds Collide, Reba McEntire’s tender Husbands and Wives and Lyle Lovett’s charming England Swings.

The show, part of TNN’s weeklong 15th anniversary celebration, would have made a superb one-hour show. Unfortunately, it lasts two hours. The special sags in the second hour when Miller’s widow, Mary, and such friends as Nelson, Price, Don Meredith, KT Oslin and Jessi Colter sit around, swap stories and sing.

Clint Black tries and fails to keep up with a spirited Miller performance of Dang Me. Kris Kristofferson tries to sing along with a slack duet by Miller and Kenny Rogers of Me and Bobby McGee. The setup works far better when Price and Nelson share Old Friends with an old performance by Waylon Jennings and Miller. Price is so good that you may wonder why he didn’t have more to do.
