You can help us to do this with a kind donation. Please give what you are happy to give…

Germany 2022 [no label, 2CD]

The Jazz South African Roots Summit with WDR Big Band. Live at the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle, Duisburg, Germany; March 25, 2022. Very good FM broadcast.

Thanks to grateful_c2d for sharing the show at Dime.

After waiting for two long years for the corona pandemic to “settle down”, our project will finally be staged on March 25 at the Philharmonie Mercatorhalle in Duisburg, Germany. I am a huge fan of John Clayton. So when I was offered the chance to work with him two years ago, I knew I wanted to focus on a South African repertoire. I chose some of my favourite tunes from home and my dear ‘mkhulu’ John was given the task of arranging the tunes for the WDR Big Band. This concert was initially supposed to take place in April 2020, but we all know what happened. I’m so glad and so grateful that we are all still alive, well, safe and healthy and that two years later, our concert can take place. - Tutu Puoane

South African Tutu Puoane is one of the exciting voices on the international jazz scene today. Two of her albums, ‘Quiet Now’ and ‘Mama Africa’ (a collaboration with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra), were awarded a South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Jazz Album (in 2010 and 2011). ‘Breathe’ was the first release of SoulFactory Records, the independent record label she founded together with her husband, music & business partner Ewout Pierreux.
