Seattle 2006 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Neumos, Seattle, WA; January 13, 2006. Very good soundboard.

Thanks to robgronotte for sharing the show at Dime.

robgronotte noted:

Many years ago I saw Red House Painters twice, Sun Kil Moon once, and Mark Kozelek solo a few times. The performances seemed to vary quite a bit depending on his mood, but I only recall being disappointed by one of the shows.

This show includes several songs from very early Red House Painters albums, which I found unusual. It also includes a lot of Modest Mouse covers (from the Sun Kil Moon album released the year before). One song is stopped (later restarted) because someone in the front passed out. Later Mark gets moody as is typical, and complains a few times about drunk people in the crowd being noisy, but you can’t hear any of that on this recording.

The first song had a spot where one channel dropped out for 3 seconds; which I patched from the other channel and I don’t think it’s noticeable now (the recording has only very slight stereo). Apart from that the recording is pretty much perfect, apart from one bit of distortion when Mark is speaking very loudly between songs. I also think that the song performances are very good. Your enjoyment of the show as a whole will depend on your tolerance for the moody chat, tuning, and false starts. If you want to skip all those, I have them tracked out separately.
