FLEETWOOD MAC
Hempstead 1974 [A Goody Speed/Pitch-adjusted Remaster, V2, 1CD]

Ultrasonic Studios, Hempstead, NY; October 8, 1974. Very good FM broadcast.

Thanks to goody for the remaster and for sharing the show at Dime.

goody noted:

I posted this remaster in 2016 and when looking to reseed it I discovered new improvements I could add to it using a few new editing tools I’ve added to my collection since then, giving me the ability to reduce and/or completely remove wow & flutter. I also found a couple small gaps I missed in the previous edition and those are now gone. Additionally, I took the liberty of amplifying the set while I had the opportunity once more.

Many thanks once again to our great friend frogster whose previous share of this made it into my hands in the first place.
Thanks also and always to ethiessen1 who updated the previous art package, which he had also put together initially.

frogster’s original notes:

This is one of the last shows before Buckingham and Nicks joined the band and changed the sound and direction of Fleetwood Mac once again. So many personnel changes over the years had given the band an ever-evolving sound that seemed to subtly change with each new album. This incarnation was on tour to promote their then new LP, “Heroes Are Hard to Find”.

They found themselves in the bizarre position of having to declare themselves “The Real Fleetwood Mac”. Thousands of people had been duped into paying money to see what they thought was the “real” band. Thankfully, this didn’t last long!
Enjoy the sounds of what was, for a brief moment - the real “Fleetwood Mac”!

NEW UPDATES - December 2, 2022

Wow & Flutter repair and Azimuth adjustment via iZotope RX8 Advanced. Small pitch changes as the result of that repair allowed me to hear and adjust the pitch just a bit more accurately than I had previously been able to on most of the files afterwards. While in editing mode, I’ve also increased the level of the show overall. Those, via Audition.

It’s still not got the absolute greatest sounding audio due to the various hums and buzzes in many Ultrasonic recordings combined with noisy amps along with the somewhat lacking FM reception. This edition gives it a sonic upgrade I wasn’t able to do last time though, in the way of wow & flutter repair.

That cleared up lots of tones - things are less ‘wobbly’ overall. You may or may not notice, but I do like it better now.
It’s extremely listenable but I’d stay away from headphones - you’ll get random guitar feedback blasts here and there. You have been warned…

Covers by ethiessen1 (Thanks!)

Horribly, this v.2 remaster comes about on the unbelievably sad occasion of Christine McVie’s passing, November 30, 2022. She left us with this and much better (and some not quite so great sounding as well…) Been lucky to share the planet with her for all these years so far…

  2. Sentimental Lady and Hypnotized remain beautiful ballads. Bob Welch was an underrated songwriter and glad he got into the Hall of Fame with the band’s classic lineup. Thanks for this!

  11. Bob Welch is an underrated guitarist, and he’s just one of the many good musicians (Danny Kirwan, Peter Green) who passed through the band. The “Rumours” lineup is the best known, but their transition from blues band to rock/pop has lots of interesting mutations. In the same way that Pink Floyd went from Syd Barrett to “Dark Side of the Moon” over the course of 5 or 6 years, Fleetwood Mac made about an album every year-and-a-half or so from their first lineup to 1975. This show is the culmination of a lot of work, and it’s great to hear.
