DAEVID ALLEN’S THE INVISIBLE OPERA COMPANY OF TIBET
Italy 1988 [no label, 2CD]
Live at Alzano Lombardo, Italy, November 2, 1988. A soundboard recording.
“On a mission to melt humankind
You have nothing to lose but your mind”
Om Mani Padme Hum!
What we have here is a rare recording of Daevid Allen’s Invisible Opera Company of Tibet, started in 1987 and while it remains functioning, is currently independent of Allen.
According to one source [imomus.com], the music “is dedicated to the proposition that it might be possible to create ‘an international ideological / spiritual/ aesthetic communications network for artists of all kinds who share the common vision of warm-hearted, pan-stylistic, inclusive art forms which serve the drive towards conscious evolution.”
Ha! we can hear you scoff. But really think about it. The opposite is what we have right now, a commercially-driven mass-produced unit-shifter of a music industrial complex. Everything else, marginalised.
We’re not sure if all the titles are correct but this is as we received from sharing music on the net. This one came from music fan corbet.
The music is a mix of Gong tunes and chants in both acoustic and electronic settings. While not the Age of Aquarius, it predates all the Tibetan chant music by a decade or two. Hopefully, this music will keep you peaceful and full of grace come Monday morning when we all go back to the ugly real world.

Daevid Allen is an Australian musician who started Soft Machine with Robert Wyatt but is best known for forming Gong. The self-titled 1987 album released in Australia is the only version of this band with Daevid Allen. Good luck if you can find a copy. Otherwise buy any of the early Gong albums with Daevid here.

Wow. This is awesome. Loved Soft Machine, Gong, New York Gong, Planet Gong, etc. Even once in junior high school wrote a short story featuring characters from the Gong mythos.
So this, which to me was previously unknown . . . >whew<
