BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Somerville Story [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Somerville Theatre, Somerville, MA; February 19, 2003. Very good soundboard, with the exception of Disc 1, Track 1, which is sourced from an audience recording.

On February 19 and 20, 2003, Bruce Springsteen and Patty Scialfa played two benefit concerts for the now-defunct DoubleTake magazine at the Somerville Theatre. DoubleTake was a magazine about the documentary film world and had stopped its operations due to financial problems.

This is what backstreets.com noted: “[In 2003] Bruce Springsteen held a pair of “Master Class”-style shows in Somerville, MA, offering glimpses into his songwriting craft, explicating songs line-by-line, and even taking questions from the audience. While a stunning change of pace from the recent E Street Band shows, very few fans actually got to witness those performances (and only after paying big bucks) - and by the time the Q&A session bit the dust on the second night, one kinda had the feeling that it’d never happen again.”

Click here for Somerville Nights, the article that appeared in Backstreets #76.

The audience recording of the show was released by Crystal Cat (Doubletake Night) and the Godfather Records (Intimate Night), and now, the soundboard, which has just been released in Japan. Acoustic Springsteen that is hugely haunting and highly entertaining.

Thanks to Lincoln Park Mark for sharing the tracks.
