JIMI HENDRIX
Hendrix For Everyone [ATM, 4CD]
The Complete Four-Hour KPFA Radio Special
Vol 1: Birth Of The Experience
KPFA Radio in California had in the past broadcast a four-hour radio special on Jimi Hendrix. For the show, Hendrix producer Alan Douglas also provided the following unreleased tracks:
1. Lord I Sing The Blues For You And Me (10.38)
2. Dancing Blues (9.21)
3. Cherokee Mist (6.08)
4. Country Blues (with harp) (10.43)
5. Cherokee Mist-In From The Storm-Valleys Of Neptune (6.30)
6. Ezy Ryder (instrumental) (3.54)
7. Valleys Of Neptune (instrumental) (3.54)
While these tracks were fairly well circulated among music fans, the actual four-hour broadcast, popularly known as Hendrix For Everyone (ATM187-191) tended to be shared only among hardcore Hendrix fans.
With the passing of Mitch Mitchell (November 12, 2008), which marks the end of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, this becomes an important show to remember Hendrix and the group and a learning experience for new listeners. Apart from the band’s music, the show also features lots of interviews with Hendrix. Listeners will also learn how certain songs have influenced Hendrix (for example, Hey Joe) and in turn how his songs have influenced others. The show also features some “experimental” music/jam that Hendrix played with John McLaughlin.
The shows are as follows:
Vol 1: Birth Of The Experience
Vol 2: The Height Of Success
Vol 3: The Blues
Vol 4: Epilogue
These shows will be shared over the next few days.
Being a radio show, it is inevitable that official material will be used and excerpts from many Hendrix tracks are heard. In the spirit of sharing (information), we hope everyone will approach these shows with a generous heart. But if anyone seriously object to any of the tracks, kindly email us at mybigo@bigozine.com and we will remove the track.
Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (these are high quality stereo MP3s - sample rate of 192 kibit/s).
These tracks are no longer available for download. Kindly email us at mybigo@bigozine.com if you want to download them at a later date.

A truely grand portait of a man, who was admired, desired & mired in a world that couldn’t quite understand him. This excellent quality sounding preseved radio broadcast is an auditorial museum relic, regarding one of The World’s Master Artists. Thanx for this premier show!

I remember listening to this show, broadcast on a local FM station in Boston in the late 70’s. I remember taping it all while in a purple haze.
Long live Mitch! Long experience the Experience!

PS Just to be correct, it must have been 1981 or so that I first heard/taped this.

Does anyone know the original air date?

Thanks for this series!

The ATM notes state that Alan Douglas passed the KPFA tapes to the station in 1982 so the show must have been broadcast in 1982.

Hey Joe has some of the greatest drumming in history. Those rolls are magical.

Is this the same radio show called “Jimi Hendrix: A Slight Return” aired on 27-11-1982?
Also from KPFA, National Publc Radio FM, San Francisco.
Both are with Craig Street, Bari Scott & Don West.

We are not sure if this is the radio show, Jimi Hendrix: A Slight Return.
Maybe some readers might have some ideas.

i say it is Jimi hendrix a slight return, because i taped the original 1n 1982 on WBGO in newark which is a NPR station. Plus the tracks match. The names of the non song tracks our the words of the interviewers or speakers. they all match. My only problem is i have been looking for 28 years for the first nights Vol 1 which i heard in the car and taped the subsequent nights, as well Vol 5 the outtakes vol.

Hello Bigo. I would love to hear these tracks - I missed the first 4 cds, but heard the outtakes - wonderful! but the first 4 programs would be so cool. Thank you for making my non-income, never-counted unemployed past 2 years - more bearable.
