THE DOORS
Morrison Hotel Outtakes 1969 [no label, 1CD]

Collection of outtakes from 1969 plus The Doors 1965 demos. Very good sound.

Only four out of the 17 tracks on this R.O.I.O. can be offered.

Morrison Hotel Outtakes came into our possession before the Doors released their 1997 4CD boxset of rarities. It has since been less of an outstanding bootleg with many of its tracks now officially released in 1997 and then in 2007 when the Doors released all their albums in 40th Anniversary editions together with the Perception box.

Surprisingly, there are still a number of gems to be had. Here are the really raw versions of The Spy (demo) and the studio recording of the 17-minute long Celebration Of The Lizard. There was probably only one take and this raw 17-minute version is probably what transpired before the studio guys took over. When compared to the official release, both songs appear to have been heavily remixed and polished for release. No edits, just a lot of repositioning of the sound to make them modern rock.

The Doors were never a polished band. Morrison thrived on “shock and awe”. Newbies to the Doors should pick up a copy of the just-released L.A. Woman 2CD reissue and all the other extra discs and videos.

To the best of our knowledge, these versions remain unreleased officially.

  2. Kinda funny BigO can only offer 4 tracks but The Doors have been very prolific with their releases. Faster than I can keep up. But there is about 33 minutes here and one of them is Celebration of the Lizard so I’m glad to have it.

  3. Doesn’t seem funny to me. They offer only
    tracks that aren’t offically available.

  5. Four songs why bother?

  6. Because we’re lucky to have them and they’re there, that’s why. Because the rest are available elsewhere. And maybe because they sound great.

  7. u dont have to bother. its for those who wish to bother. if its even one song its for those who want something they dont have. i think youre missing a point here. these are tracks that u dont have. if u do have them then move on to the next item that u dont have. there are others who might not have these. no one has everything. not even me. seriously. thats not even meant as a joke. but if there are tracks that arent yet released why not put them on here and give them to us fans so that we can have them and not sit there on your high horse and ask such ignorant questions like why bother? how arrogant of u.

  10. The Doors WERE a VERY polished band. Morrison was an unstable drunk, talented though.
