CD5 is the best of the alternate takes and was added in a later German edition. The original title of GI Blues was to have been Café Europa. "We get it all here: laughter, swearing, fooling around with the band and a sore throat. Between some of the takes we can here Elvis referring to his Army time (with terms like commanding officer, forward observer) and he uses some German expressions (like 'was?' translated as 'what?' if something goes wrong, or 'achtung', translated as 'attention'). Not all of the conversations between takes are put on this CD set." Recorded at RCA Studios in Hollywood. Ex SBD stereo.

This material is well covered already, like for instance on From Louisiana To Tennessee, Stax Trax etc... Also said to contain Felton Jarvis' re-mixes of 'From Elvis In Memphis'. The first reel stops after "C.C. Rider", the second begins with "Sweet Caroline". These 37-year old recordings are somewhat rough, with noticable hiss here and there. Every effort was made to alleviate this problem without affecting the original sound. We hope you enjoy the results". Ex SBD stereo. Improvement over previous versions and more complete.

Elvis Presley - The Brightest Star On Sunset Boulevard: REMASTER [Gravel Road 2CD hungercity 5480] Rehearsals RCA studios Hollywood, July 24, 1970. Ex SBD stereo. This is the same as the Fort Baxter release. But this 2008 issue has a different mix [sound]. "I will hesitate to call it an upgrade because opinions differ, some prefer the sound of the old version, however to these ears this one is much more what you would expect from an official release - the sound is more three dimensional as opposed to the flat soundboard of the old FB releases. On the downside it is also significantly quieter, to the point where if you do a side-by-side comparison between the old and new you really have to crank it up to hear the new version. But then that's what volume dials were made for right?"

After only seven songs, he leaves the stage and the Stamps sing a few tunes. Charlie Hodge plays emcee during this, you can hear him trying to kill time. After the fourth gospel number, Charlie asks, "You wanna hear them do one more?" and the response is less-than-overwhelming. Kinda funny. Anyway Elvis comes back to close the show, but changes his mind. Sick as he was, he felt like he had to give the audience more. Elvis Presley - Crazy The Funny Side of Elvis [no label 1CD Torrent: 67767] "A collection of Elvis' hilarious, often spaced out talking in between songs from the concert years. Let's remember that Elvis' own record label put out an album like this (called Having Fun With Elvis On Stage) while Elvis was still alive(!). And they were following the example set by Elvis' own manager who had put the album out first on his own label. However, those releases sort of cleaned everything up and hid the fact that Elvis was pretty bonkers most of the time (listening to it, Elvis stage patter sounds as dull & flat as any other Vegas act and you simply question the sanity of the people who would release an item like Having Fun With Elvis On Stage). THE PRINCE LIST

Prince - The Rebels: Unreleased 1979 Album [no label 1CD] "The Rebels was a one-off recording project with Prince's band in the summer of 1979, not long after he had recorded the Prince album on his own… Nothing ever happened to The Rebels and it is uncertain how serious Prince was about the project or if it was ever presented to Warner Bros. Most likely, it was primarily a way to appease Dez Dickerson and André Cymone, and possibly other band members, who wanted to contribute more to Prince's music. In the end, no one in the band wrote better songs than Prince. The circulating Rebels recordings are not very impressive, sounding somewhat anonymous and unoriginal in comparison to Prince's own albums. Prince's band did not have a name until Purple Rain and as far as we know, The Rebels was never a nick-name for the band." Lineup: Prince; Dez Dickerson (guitar), André Cymone (bass), Gayle Chapman and Matt Fink (keyboard), and Bobby Z. (drums). Prince - Come: Original Test Pressing [no label 1CD demonoid 1488593] "Evidently made to resemble the March 1994 configuration of the Come album, this is an excellent release and an extremely clever idea. As is the problem with these releases, a number of the tracks are no different to the officially released versions - however the opening three songs are alternate versions. The disc begins with 'Poem' which would later become an extended version of 'Come' and includes portions which were lifted and made into segues on the album along with 'Orgasm'. 'Interactive' contains an intro of Prince laughing which is not present on the released version, but it is very short. 'Endorphinmachine' is far less cluttered than the released version with a more "live" sound. The remainder of the tracks do not differ from the released versions. The quality throughout is stunningly clear and certainly a match for the official release. Nice idea for a release, and very nicely presented." - Databank. Ex SBD stereo. NOT FOR TRADE.

Before destroying, he ordered them all to be coated in plastic to make them unplayable. Tks 1-6 are from Undertaker. Prince - 30 Years of Unreleased Funk VOL3 (Pure Funk PF028/030 3CD 2007 tradersden 47935) "Overall this is something of a mixed bag. Take aside the fact Disc 1 has been misleadingly titled as an early configuration of Graffiti Bridge, and just concentrate on the quality in comparison to what was previously circulating - these outtakes wipe the floor with any other release thus far. The majority of the tracks included on Disc 2 simply were not circulating, and whilst 2/3rds feature no Prince involvement (other than the original score being written by him), their inclusion is valid and welcome - although perhaps not something many will give a repeat listen to. Disc 3 works fairly well as a collection of improved quality outtakes, but there is no cohesion and the 14 songs chosen span 14 years in 70 minutes - too far a leap for me." - thedatabank.org. Flying Burrito Brothers - Live At The Palamino 1969 [no label 2CD Torrent: 72042] live at The Palomino, North Hollywood, CA, June 8, 1969.

"Almost 15 years ago, a friend told me that a co-worker of his had recorded the Flying Burrito Brothers in the late '60s. As the story goes, the guy was something of an audiophile and had recorded this show on reel to reel in stereo, of sorts, with one mic on the stage and another spread far apart.

"While the recording had circulated before, the guy went back to his original reels and did what was described as a "meticulous transfer." I don't know if it was done on a computer or on a standalone, but what was sent to me were two CD-Rs. I'm pretty sure they were straight off his DAT or the CD-R set he had made for himself direct from the reels. The quality of his transfer was superior to anything I had heard before. All edits, fades and such are his doing. The lineage here is Master Reel > DAT or CD-R > CD-R(1) > FLAC."

Procol Harum with Joe Cocker - John Liquorice Dead Rock And Roll Allstars [Living Legend LLRCD 038 1CD] 12 tracks includes one track with Cocker on vocals from 1969 Liquorice John Sessions. Lineup: Gary Brooker, Robin Trower, Dave Knights, Mathew Fisher, BJ Wilson, Joe Cocker, Leon Redbone and Jack Lancaster [Blodwyn Pig]. This lineup in 1970 was the pre-Procol Harum group, The Paramounts! "In 1989 an Italian company brought out a bootleg CD, purporting to contain the famous Liquorice John Session, on the Living Legend label. Although at least 30 songs were apparently recorded, of which 13 were mixed by Chris Thomas and aired on Radio in the mid-'70s, this CD contains only 11 cuts that could possibly have come from that session." - Procolharum.com.

Apparently the Joe Cocker track may have nothing to do with this session. The songs from this session includes many cover versions of rock 'n' roll hits. Here's why: "...so copying what I'd seen at Beatles sessions where they would go through their old favourites, I asked Procol to play anything they liked while we did what we needed to do. Gary was and is totally in his element singing this kind of stuff and I was quite happy to listen and not interrupt, even once we were ready to start the song we had to cut that night. From this was born the idea of hiring a studio for one night to put their old repertoire down." - producer Chris Thomas. Ex SBD/FM? stereo. This album was finally released in 1999 as Ain't Nothin' To Get Excited About and attributed to Liquorice John Death. The official lineup was Gary Brooker, Robin Trower, BJ Wilson & Chris Copping. Robin Trower - In City Dreams Sessions/Demos 1977 [no label 1CD Torrent: 125710] sessions at Criteria Studios, Miami, FL, summer 1977. "After the album Long Misty Days, Robin Trower added Rustee Allen on bass to expand the band’s sound. Allen, a very accomplished musician, had previously been in Sly Stone’s band along with Trower drummer Bill Lordan. The addition of Allen definitely gave the band a new, tighter, and funkier sound. The next album, In City Dreams, took the band in a whole new direction. This album remains one of Trower’s all-time favorites. None of this material or versions have ever been released officially." Lineup: Robin Trower-guitar, James Dewar-vocals, Rustee Allen-bass, Bill Lordan-drums. Ex SBD stereo.
