Neil Young & Mynah Birds with Rick James - Mynah Birds 1966 [no label 1CD Rusties] sessions Jan-Feb 1966. Probable lineup: Neil Young: Guitar, (backing vocals on Go On and Cry?); Ricky "I'm Rick James, Bitch" Matthews: Vocals; Bruce Palmer: Bass; Rickman Mason: Drums; John Taylor?: Rhythm Guitar; keyboards?(probably not Goldie McJohn, possibly in-house Motown musicians?). Neil does not sing lead on any tracks. Ex SBD stereo.

Neil Young - KQED Studios 1970 [no label 1CD Torrent: 59919] live at KQED Studios SF, CA, Feb 19, 1970. Back in the day, KQED was responsible for spotting the best new music via their live sessions. This is from the Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere era. Ex SBD stereo.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse - "Danny By The River" Edited [Seymour Records 2CD Torrent: 177705] live at Music Hall, Cincinnati, Ohio, Feb 25, 1970. The final track on the boot has been removed as it is from a different location and of lesser quality. "This has a complete Down By The River, with the missing section spliced in (thank to rdvdijk for looking at the samples) & to my ears is missing the hiss without missing the music." Best version than previous boots and also beats the rust tree version for quality and completeness. Lineup: Neil Young - vocals, guitar; Danny Whitten - guitar, vocals; Billy Talbot - bass, vocals; Ralph Molina - drums, vocals; Jack Nitzsche - electric piano. Ex SBD stereo.

Forever Sunset [2CD]. One of the earlier performances with Crazy Horse at the Fillmore East in New York on Mar 6, 1970. Both the evening and late show are included in clear soundboard quality. All of Young's fiery disposition is on show here playing three [at the time] new songs.

Some Are Bound For Sadness [2CD]. Recorded live in London at the Royal Festival Hall on Feb 27, 1971 during his solo tour. Incredible ambience and intimacy in this close to the mic audience recording. Marvel at how young he is, his cockney imitation and that sense of humour. Young plays guitar and harmonica and switches to the piano for some songs. No one else is on stage. At this show, 11 songs he played had never yet been recorded. What audacity. He handles his Vietnam protest song, Ohio, with sincere anguish. One of the best albums to get free on the net. This one will haunt you.

Broken Arrow [BBC sessions Feb 23 1971 and acetates from Tonight's The Night '75]

Neil Young - 73.Jan.15 with the Stray Gators Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada 20tracks 2CDr (The complete version, not "Lonely Weekend")

Lonely Weekend [2CD]. An excellent audience recording from Jan 15, 1973 at the Maple Leaf Garden in Toronto. Young was on the road trying to shake away the glam of Heart Of Gold with some new rawer songs like L.A., Journey Through The Past, Borrowed Tune, New Mama, Alabama, Don't Be Denied, Lookout Joe and the still unreleased Say You Will. This is a bootleg that has been treed. With Stray Gators.

Welcome To Miami Beach 2 [2CD]. Don't be misled by the title. This one's from the Rainbow Theatre in London on Nov 5, 1973 when he took the Tonight's The Night album on tour even before it was released. What daring. Back in the day, English rock critics who saw this and the Manchester show, sounded the alert to all music fans that Young was really cooking. Now you can hear it too. Very good sound. Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Nagoya, First Show In Japan [Tarantura 1CD Torrent: 149472] live at Aichken Taiikukan, Nagoya, Japan, March 3, 1976. First show of Japan Tour. This complete version includes the second encore Cortez The Killer. Ex- AUD stereo. Some consider this an upgrade as it is from the taper's original cassette [1st gen] but it is a bit shrill. From CHermann57 "I'll have to contradict everybody who takes this an upgrade, at least soundwise. I'm pretty sure that the original tape for this bootleg doesn't sound better than the previous version of this show (seeded by Ed Tyre in January 2007). But the people at Tarantura used a simple trick to make it sound clearer: they used heavy compression to make all parts of the concert sound louder. My audio remaster programm calls this "normalization" but it has nothing to do with the boost of the overall volume level - so everybody with a capable programme could have been done this too.

"The same trick is used nowadays by radio stations and during the ads at the TV to make the ads sound louder than the rest of the programme to catch the ear of the undiscerned listener or TV watcher). The problem is: the sound seems to be crisp and stellar but it is no longer natural, no, this Neil Young shows sounds now - at least to my ears - artificial.

"You can tell the manipulation if you'll take a look at the wave form of the tracks. Every part of the show (even every single second of each song) is now on the same level. That's what the compression did - IMHO not for good. I will stick in future to the last version of this marvellous show which sounds much more natural."

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Wet Show: Remastered [TomP/ Tarantura 2CD Torrent: 177268] live at Aichken Taiikukan, Nagoya, Japan, March 3, 1976. This is a remaster of the recent Tarantura bootleg by fan Tom Phillips. Ex- AUD stereo.

Neil Young - Chrome Dreams (Rust Edition) Ex.

Neil Young - Chrome Dreams: The Unreleased Album [no label 1CD] A fresh 2008 bootleg of the fan compiled lost album. "Chrome Dreams features a large amount of still-unreleased material. The version of "Powderfinger" included is the original acoustic demo, while the "Sedan Delivery" featured is at a slower pace than the take and contains an additional verse. "Pocahontas" is the same version heard on Rust Never Sleeps but without the overdubs. "Hold Back the Tears" is a radically different take compared to the one that appears on American Stars 'N Bars, also featuring additional lyrics. "Too Far Gone" would not see release until 1989's (Neil Young album)" Freedom. It is presented on Chrome Dreams with Crazy Horse's Frank "Poncho" Sampedro accompanying Young on a 1917 mandolin. "Stringman", a piano ballad, was (according to Shakey) written for Jack Nitzsche and is presented as a performance from Young's 1976 European tour with some studio overdubs. Eighteen years later Young revived it for his Unplugged performance, never having released the song as a studio track. "Homegrown" here is a different mix than the version on American Stars 'n Bars. The rest of the songs are for the most part identical with slightly different mixes to their releases on subsequent albums."  Ex SBD stereo. This is close to the Rust Edition.
