The Lifehouse Chronicles [Eel Pie, CD 1 and 2 of 6]

Outtakes and demos. Deleted tracks.

Newer or younger Pete Townshend fans might find themselves in a quandary when it comes to collecting The Lifehouse Chronicles. The six-CD internet/mail-order box set was released in 2000, and deleted in 2009. Townshend had opted not to reissue it, when the existing quantity sold out. At the moment, no official or paid downloads are available.

While the six-CD box set is out of print, the sampler Lifehouse Elements can still be bought. And some of the tracks from the box set can be found on the Scoop, Who Came First and Jai Baba reissues.

Until Townshend decides to re-release the Lifehouse Chronicles, here’s something for the fans and collectors to tie things over. - Philip Cohen

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

And for those who are new to our site, BigO draws its name from “Before I Get Old”, from The Who’s My Generation.

These tracks are no longer available for download.

  5. As it states in the title above (The Lifehouse Chronicles [Eel Pie, CD 1 and 2 of 6]), this “Lifehouse Elements” sampler is just the first 2 CD’s of the 6 CD boxset “Lifehouse Chronicles”. The first 2 discs are the “Demos”. Well worth finding the complete set without omissions.

If BigO is ok with it, I can post a link to the 2 demo CD’s @ 320kbps.

  9. Actually, Keith Moon was good friends with Micky Dolenz, who was in the Monkees. Also, Pete is a Monkees fan. Example A) a picture of Pete and Davy Jones and B) a picture of Pete with a poster of the Monkees above him

  10. Even “better,” the Who in 1966 were apparently being groomed to star in a sitcom of their own about the travails of a struggling pop group - Moonie, for one, would have been an absolute natural.

But then, along came the Prefab Four onto UK TV screens instead and well, as the Big T himself warns, “Too much of ANYTHING….”

  16. It’s too bad Davey Jones died, but what does he have to do with the Lifehouse Chronicles? I always like Pete’s demos. Some were just as good as the Who’s finished version.

By George Martini on Mar 5, 2012

  17. Dear George Martini & questioning man,
Please forgive me if I led you to believe that Davy Jones played on Lifehouse. He didn’t. When the news broke that he died I chose the most current post to spread the news. I couldn’t wait for the Monkee post to appear first. Please excuse my haste and ignorance.

Now I have to hop over to the Monkees post and tell Ed that Ronnie Montrose was not in the Monkees.

  18. Just finished downloading these tracks. Thanks for posting them.

One question…”Put the Money Down” seems to cut off abruptly after just under two minutes. Is that how it sounds on the Lifehouse box set?

  20. For those who think that the trolling just started recently here . Some of these mean spirited comments proves that people have always been insulting and abrasive. It just was about music then and not genitalia.
