BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND
New York 2012 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Apollo Theater, New York, NY; March 9, 2012. Excellent internet SiriusXM Radio broadcast (128 kbps; pushed up to 224 here).

That the US is beginning to look like the Third World is confirmed by the latest poverty statistics that show the number of American families with an income of less than two dollars per person per day more than doubled between 1996 and 2011, from 636,000 to 1.46 million…

These income figures exclude benefits in kind such as food stamps and charitable assistance. Still, a cash income of barely sixty dollars a month plus food and a few hand-me-down garments donated via a community church is hardly enough to enjoy the American way of life, as that term has come to be understood. How is it that a country with a per capita GDP of $48,100 has a such a large and growing number of extremely poor citizens?
- CanSpeccy: Life in America on Two Dollars a Day. Or Why American Poverty Will Soon Match That of the Third World.

It’s election year in the United States. What can be more potent than a new Bruce Springsteen album, Wrecking Ball, and a new tour? To mix a metaphor, here’s a modern-day Paul Revere with his State of the Nation address.

As Springsteen said: “There is a real patriotism underneath the best of my music but it is a critical, questioning and often angry patriotism… I have spent my life judging the distance between American reality and the American dream.”

Thanks to larryrulz for taping the show and sharing the tracks at Jungleland. Thanks also to ivan14278 for the artwork.

  3. Wow! As I listened to the show live last evening, I wondered if this would ever find its way to bigO! I never dreamed it would be posted within twenty-four hours of the broadcast! Thank you very much for making this wish a reality. I’m so psyched that my hands are shaking as I download these tracks. I can’t wait for the second disc to appear. This web site is the coolest thing going.

  11. Truly one of the best shows Bruce has done in years. The E. Street Band just rocked the place. The new album is his best since The River, in my opinion, and the new songs are worthy of the Boss’ past accomplishment. There is an energy here that transcends the new album, as you can tell Bruce cares about his world, his fans, and the audience. Great job Big-O!

  13. Thanks BigO! Looking forward to hearing this. This *almost* makes up for pulling down that Grateful Dead restart today.

  14. Here’s a question… Any chance of finding the Allman Brothers Band show that was broadcast on Sirius/XM last year? It was a Hep C awareness benefit, that included an amazing group of special guests: Natalie Cole, Crosby & Nash, Phil Lesh, and more. It’s a great show that hasn’t been made available for purchase.

  19. Thanks, as always, BigO and thanks to larryrulz for this wonderful show. I wonder if anyone has links for the Springsteen songs done 2 weeks ago on the Late Show by John Legend, Springsteen, Elvis Costello and others. The “Sexy and I Know It” by Neil and Bruce was the first Hulu clip I’ve watched in months. Hilarious!

By Johnny Kinkdom on Mar 12, 2012

  20. Darth, thanks for the link! GRATEFULLY appreciated!

By Shaun on Mar 13, 2012

  26. where is the wav/flac good stuff on the big o

By wavflac on Mar 16, 2012

  27. glad i did a 96/24 recording from 5.1 surround home stereo . and before you ask i am not sharing it .
    its personal use only

By wavflac on Mar 16, 2012

  28. I’m thinking of changing my name to Pompous Ass

By sking on Mar 16, 2012

  29. sking, you just can`t please the kids these days can you.

By sluggo on Mar 16, 2012

  30. To wavflac:

Why would you come to this site and ask why a higher bit rate recording is not offered when you already have one. Then, just to be a bit more miserable, you pro-actively state that you won’t share it, when nobody here had yet asked. You could have said nothing and moved on but that wouldn’t have allowed you to display your ugly disposition. I am most grateful for this download offering and at no charge to boot. What a ray of sunshine you are.

By Improper Bostonian on Mar 16, 2012

  31. sking - u cant make that name cuz then what would wavflac use as his name?
improper - youre trying to reason with an idiot who will absolutely never get it. the collecting community dislikes these sorts.

anyone who says ‘i am not sharing it’ should be banned from dl’ing. period.
not that we / anyone needs his recording. i felt compelled to say that bruce is on the phone and says he will play all our living rooms cept wavflac’s cuz he doesnt like him. so there.
i go out of my way for no reason at all whatsoever cept to help others when they need something and ill upload and share music. can u imagine what seeing shit like this does to me? wavflac - make sure u never ever ask for anything from me. i dont like u. i actually thought to say here that if u need anything to just ask me and ill help u get it. but i sat here thinking about what i would say and decided to go the other way. u arent worthy. we are a small community here and even tho not all of us communicate privately with one another we have established friendships. u arent one of us.

By darth on Mar 17, 2012

  32. To darth:

I appreciate your comments. I have loads of high quality Bruce and Southside Johnny. If you’re looking for anything in particular,I’d be happy to help.

By Improper Bostonian on Mar 17, 2012

  33. improper - southside isnt one of my faves. while he is fun to experience live i am not a collector of his performances. with bruce i sometimes will save his shows but i have stopped going out of my way to obtain them because there are just soooo many out there. i cant think of anything with regards to bruce that i cant find. he is just too easy to collect.
however.. i am still a collector and even tho i have nearly everything or can get nearly anything i want i often leave it up to friends to tell me what i want. haha.
for example.. i have 2 hard drives full with everything that sugarmegs has. one with 25000 shows the other with 54000 shows. clearly i will never get to hear it all. i have 30 or 40 sites with 1000s upon 1000s of cds and concerts that i can dl if i dont happen to have them already within minutes or hours if its slow going. i also have 18 other hard drives full of music - both official and bootleg. thank u for your offer. so i will reverse the offer to u.
right now im going to work on all the official output that i didnt have by Dennis Locorriere that i looked up on his wikipedia entry and that i will see if i can dl since im way too poor to buy.

By darth on Mar 18, 2012

  34. I wanted to like this, but Bruce Springsteen really sucks now. The new songs are the same old stuff. Bruce has become a huge parody of himself.

By Nickthequick on Mar 18, 2012

  35. i made a 3min mp3 of the singing bit bruce did at the austin convention center the other day as part of his hour long keynote speech. if anyone is interested in that 3meg file feel free to email me for it. it fits neatly on the end of this or something else. i personally had no desire to own his speech. but i thought it was kewl to own the musical portion.

By darth on Mar 22, 2012

  36. Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know about this one.

By Matt on Apr 29, 2012

  37. if anyone needs the new song bruce bruce is putting out on monday 6 days before it gets released.. since it isnt on youtube.. and since the copies that are posted on yt get yanked.. and the one that is there sounds as if the guy who posted it didnt really have it after all… feel free to go here -

    http://vimeo.com/79814562

u can dl it in various ways. personally i dl’d it to mp4 which was 8.5meg then converted it to mp3.

By darth on Nov 21, 2013

  38. thats odd.. i only typed bruce once on that first line.
