Nashville Sessions 1969 And More [Rattlesnake RS250, 1CD]

Unreleased sessions, outtakes and mixes. Mostly excellent sound.

This title has just surfaced and it’s thanks to simonlofc for sharing the tracks at Hunger City. simonlofc also thanked Erik and Luis for giving him the go ahead for this.

Philip Cohen comments:

These are all unreleased mixes, edits or songs from the “Nashville Skyline” and “Self Portrait” sessions in Nashville (February 1969 and February to March 1970), except Track 20 (”If Not For You”, with George Harrison on guitar) which was recorded in 1970 in New York (July to August 1970). Interestingly, “If Not For You” appears in a longer, unedited form here (versus what Columbia released on “The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3″).

Mostly excellent stereo sound, except the acetate-derived tracks (Tracks 7 through 14), which are very good, but near-mono. Tracks 7-12 have appeared in superior versions on “Self Portrait”. Most of the tracks have been offered elsewhere, notably (for the tracks towards the end of the collection) on the three “Genuine Bootleg Series” 3-CD sets.

Meanwhile, music fan raggedclown noted at Hunger City: “Only Tracks 1-5 are actually new to circulation. Anyone who has the Genuine Bootleg Series Vol One, Take Two, and Third One Now, all of which were released back in the ’90s, has everything else on here… The so-called acetate versions are actually downgrades of official material!” And Jean added that Track 1 is the bonus track consumers got when they pre-ordered “Together Through Life” from i-tunes. [Ed: However, that offer isn’t applicable anymore.]

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

  5. Many years ago, I`m going to say about 1971/2 perhaps I came across an lp by and artist named “Hyde”.
The only reason i picked it up was that I knew the guy that recorded it , and a few of the side musicians..anyhow , there was a cover version [tho` I didn`t know at the time” ] of Dylan`s “I threw it all away”.I came to love that song so much, that version anyhow.. anyone else familiar with the disc I`m talking about ? It wasn`t a great disc, just a nice memory that `s all..

  9. andrew I don`t know if bigo has ever put out the “Tree with roots” or the Basement Tapes.
I have both and they are great pieces of wonderful musical history.

By sluggo on Apr 17, 2012

  10. Per Sluggo’s comment, any chance you could post the Tree With Roots collection or an expanded unreleased version of The Basement Tapes?

By Maui Jim on Apr 17, 2012

  11. sluggo….they had Tree With Roots….I downloaded it here.

  12. maybe this is what people are looking for —

By darth on Apr 17, 2012

  13. for extensive info regarding both the tree with roots and basement tapes discs.
Hey Bigo , it seems folks would really enjoy the opportunity to get these , hint hint.

By sluggo on Apr 17, 2012

  14. I would also recommend reading two books,
sid Griffin`s “Million Dollar Bash” a track by track account of the Genuine Basement tapes , and
Greil Marcus’s “Invisible Republic” (aka “The Old Weird America”)
If you are anything like me , I love to read about bands and releases while listening to the disc simultaneously.

  15. I got this complete elsewhere … quite superb is a crazy sort of way. Al Kooper tinkling bizarrely ont he keys on Went to See the Gypsy explains, probably, why Bob did not put it out on his album … though the strings on Sign on the Window add a lush feel that is good to hear … still, the more spartan official release is hard to beat. There is another can I call it ‘bootleg’ out there with 20 and 20 in the title … let’s hope it pops up here sooner or later. Hope so, anyway. Cheers.

  16. Ps … the title seems to have been chopped off the left hand side of the front cover which, if memory serves me well, was originally going to be the going for Self Portrait before Bob got out his oil paints and started creating a masterpiece. Cheers again.

  20. Hey! I’m desperately looking for this… Could any kind soul reupload this somewhere, please? Thanks!

By Gauth on Nov 14, 2017

  21. Forgot to mention… in FLAC would be better than MP3

By Gauth on Nov 14, 2017

  22. Gauth, your request brings to mind a different meaning to the term, “jailbait!”

By ScarRad on Nov 14, 2017

  23. ScarRad, Haha! Well this is the only place I’ve found that HAD this to download in the past… I figured someone would be nice enough to reupload it somewhere temporarily, and then could just delete the link or something. I usually find these kind of DMCA’d releases elsewhere but no luck with this one… I could setup an alternate email address to leave it in here in the comments, tho! I tried TheTradersDen, Zomb, Dime…

By Gauth on Nov 14, 2017

  24. Yeah, I don’t think you would be successful using the Way Back Machine at, or “Q” from Star Trek NG, or Dr. Who’s phone booth.

By ScarRad on Nov 14, 2017

  25. ScarRad, YOU DA MAN! The phone booth trick worked PERFECT. Damn, I don’t know why I didn’t think of this… Thanks again :D

By Gauth on Nov 14, 2017

  26. Failing that and if there is no neighbourhood phone booth (do they still have those?) you could play this:
