3rd Annual Christmas Show 2008 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Keswick Theatre, Glenside, PA, December 13, 2008. Very good FM broadcast.

Here’s the third Aimee Mann Christmas Show, thanks to rockcat who shared the tracks on the Dime site. This is what rockcat noted:

“This is the ideal way to see a concert: 1) Go to concert; 2) Enjoy yourself; 3) Go home; 4) Enjoy the concert again… thanks to an FM broadcast and my trusty timer!

“I saw Aimee’s first Holiday Christmas show at Town Hall in New York two years ago. I enjoyed it very much, but not enough to get me to make the trek back to New York again (from Philadelphia) for the second Annual show. However, this year she scheduled a Holiday show at the Keswick Theatre which is only five minutes from my house, so it was impossible to resist.

“At times, the proceedings were a bit corny, but it was also enjoyable, and sometimes quite funny. Some of this is very visual, so I’m not sure how well it will translate to an audio-only recording. I guess you’ll just have to use your imagination. In years past, Aimee posted the film portions to her website.

“WXPN tried (somewhat unsuccessfully) to edit/mute the chorus of “The Immaculate Conception of the Hanukkah Fairy” which goes “She’s a mother-fuckin’ Hanukkah Fairy” with some abrupt cuts. It is presented here exactly as it was broadcast. In the future, I may re-up this show with the edits restored (from another source). This isn’t the only time in the show that XPN attempted to censor foul language… including the several lyrics of “Long Shot”. All too often, they were too slow on the edit button, so all they really succeeded in doing was to butcher the song(s).

A word of thanks also goes to xlnt77 for the artwork.

As rockcat said: “Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all. Enjoy!”

Note: Readers who object to strong language might want to skip this.

  2. Ms. Mann is another in a growing list of performers onto whom you’ve turned me of whose music I just can’t get enough.

Now, if I can just convince her to jam with me and maybe write some songs and, well, have my baby . . .

Anyway, thank you so very much and a Merry Christmas, Happy Festivus for the rest of us, Chappy Channukah, Kwazy Kwanzaa, Sweet Solstice, or whatever’s your pleasure to you and yours.:)
