Concert For A Landmine Free World - Dublin 2002 [no label, 2CD]

Live at Point Theatre, Dublin, Ireland; January 14, 2002. Mix of excellent soundboard (most of the show) and audience.

A big round of thanks to davmar77 for sharing this show on Dime. This is what davmar77 noted:

I’m proud to present an amazing rarity today. This is the January 2002 concert for a Landmine Fee World that took place in Dublin. The show features the collective talents of Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, John Prine and Steve Eearle. James Hooker also fills in on keyboards. I was very happy to get the OK to share this great show.

It’s 10 years old so it’s time to bring this into the light. There were a couple of tracks either incomplete or missing on the SB but with the help of john234 and bacharach, I was able to obtain those sections which I’ve edited in.

The quality is excellent on this although there’re a few instances where the levels were a little hot. The sounds of this tell me that it could even be a patch from the monitor mix but that’s just a guess. Either way, this is a killer recording and has never been circulated from this source, which shall remain nameless.

There was an official release taken from some of these benefits in California a few years earlier but none of that is taken from this. I’ve included artwork taken from the Costello wiki site. As I needed to retrack the whole show, I have matched the artwork listing. The only difference are the additional tracks at the end of the first set when Emmylou does a charity auction and [Bobby Muller] talking about the cause.

This is what lynn_bex reported at

The idea of these charity “Concerts for a Landmine Free World” was conceived by country music star Emmylou Harris, who became actively involved with the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) when she visited Cambodia and Vietnam and saw at first hand the rehabilitation clinics run by the VVAF.

The first show was in Washington DC in 1998 when Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle performed a benefit under the title of “Concerts for a Landmine Free World” to raise awareness for the public education efforts of VVAF’s CAMPAIGN FOR A LANDMINE FREE WORLD.

Regular Concerts have continued to take place in various parts of America since 1998 but Europeans had to wait until 2002 for the… shows, which took in Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, London, Stockholm and Oslo.

  8. for obsessionists, t.u.b.e. posted a FLAC version on 101guitars, ten hours before BigO posted this version here

  9. walter - in all likelihood bigo is grabbing shows from the flac files like the ones u are showing us here and doing the conversions and posting them for us to enjoy. not everyone here is interested in flac or shn files. they are happy with mp3 and the convenience of how bigo offers these shows. many sites grab items available on other sites. who had them first isnt that big of a deal. this show is 10 years old for example.
