Download Festival 2012 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Download Festival, Jim Marshall Stage, Castle Donington, UK; June 10, 2012. Very good to excellent audience recording.

For those who enjoyed their homecoming gig at Birmingham on May 19, 2012, here’s one more for your collection.

Simon Price, in The Independent, wrote:

Everything this festival crowd is into, for better or worse, was invented by Black Sabbath between 1970 and 1977, so they’re the ultimate closing act. Ozzy Osbourne’s sidekicks, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi, may look like retired musketeers. But the latter, his plastic-coated fingertips (originals lost in an industrial accident) roaming frets marked out with big gothic crosses, can still deliver doom-rock riffs of unmatchable heaviosity: “War Pigs”, “Sweet Leaf”, “Iron Man” and, above all, “Paranoid”.

Ozzy himself is a doddery figure, repeatedly shouting “I can’t fucking hear you!” in the same voice he uses to inform Sharon that one of her Pomeranians has crapped on the carpet. But no one could deliver the line “My name is Lucifer, please take my hand” in such a convincing wail. The only shame is that the reunion is a partial one. “Where the fuck is Bill Ward?” demands a heckler as Ozzy hails some competent young random behind the kit. Where indeed. The genial, strawberry-nosed drummer is absent, claiming he was presented with an “unsignable” contract (a claim refuted by the Sabbath camp). A sad situation, but this is what happens when you don’t pay your Bills.

Thanks to rbose1 for taping the show and sharing the tracks on Dime.

    The show was AWESOME!
    The SETLIST is incredible!

  5. hey russian assassin, yes, i was there. maiden ruled! to be honest, i was a little disappointed with alice. he was good, don’t get me wrong. the setlist was mostly hits, though. i mean no elected, ballad of dwight fry, under my wheels, be my lover and or is it my body. i liked billion dollar babies, black widow and i love the dead was cool. i’m not huge fans of feed my frankenstein, poison, no more mr. nice guy and or school’s out. well no more mr. nice guy and school’s out are good songs, but they’ve been played to death. the last two times i saw him i liked better. i have montgomery, al 10.7.09.

i wrote you awhile back on here to give me an e-mail address so we could meet the night of. i never heard back, though.

i actually have the maiden show on two cd-r’s. if you goto guitar forum, you can download the show in flac. it sounds ok for an audience recording. for free, it rules. there are mp3’s out there, but i don’t have luck with file factory. i saw a mediafire link, but the file size is small so they may not sound that great.

    nice to hear from you.

  6. hey russian assassin, here is the link to get maiden atlanta in flac, if you want it. it has some bonus charlotte tracks, after running free / band introductions. my friend who downloaded it and who was there too left the charlotte tracks off my copy cause i wasn’t there and it’s incomplete. the whole show may be out there, though.

i’ll be at robert plant here in bham, al aug 12 at alabama theatre, if you can get a ticket. he’s only doing two north american dates and b’ham is one of them. i heard it sold out, but there are tickets on ebay. hope to see you there!

  8. I saw Sabbath when they reunited years ago . There was a guy on the side of the stage playing keys , bass and guitar and belting out most of the vocals with Ozzy . They weren’t trying to hide him . Maybe it’s the guy named above ?

  9. Hey Ed, Nice to see you posting again. Don’t let other people (who shall remain nameless) BULLY you into not posting. Your posts are great and always welcome.WELCOME BACK!!!!

  10. The reformed Sabbath are only playing two shows as Tony Iommi is battling cancer. Therefore rest of tour is billed as Ozzy & Friends.

From what I’ve heard, Bill Ward is also not in the best of health, so the other three were asking that he come on and play two or three songs. For that he wanted more money than they were each getting for the whole set.
