DIONNE WARWICK
Salzburg 2011 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Jazzherbst, Grosses Fesspielhaus, Salzburg, Austria; November 5, 2011. Excellent FM stereo.

Although touring in support of her new album at the time, Only Trust Your Heart, Dionne relied heavily on the songs that made her famous - the Bacharach-David compositions. Frankly, that’s what all the fans ever want to hear. She rolls them out one-by-one.

She’s still got a steady alto and enough control to handle difficult melodies and emotions sweetly. On a couple of tracks, she shows her age, all of 70 years. That said, these are live versions done with great respect to the originals. The only exception is a revised version of I Say A Little Prayer. This is the 2006 arrangement that first appeared on My Friends & Me. Burt has nothing to worry about.

This recording was shared by swisstapes at DIME. It was taken from an FM broadcast on OE1 Austria. An excellent recording captured by swisstapes. Thank you for this special moment with a true singing legend.

  6. you know how when you are a kid and really affected by music, so much in fact it stays with you a lifetime , well there are a couple of songs that I can never delete from my psyche from my childhood .some silly, some not but they have a way of inhabiting your soul..every music lover has them and a lot of these songs are probably guilty pleasures, ones you don`t want anyone to know about.
I digress,”Anyone who had a heart ” , the original version had a mind blowing low note in it from some instrument that sounded like a lonely foghorn.I fell in love with that note all those years a go.
