ERIC CLAPTON
In The West Of Japan [Wow Wow Wow, Disc 7/8 of 11]

Live at the Green Arena, Hiroshima, Japan; October 24, 1997. Very good to excellent audience recording.

Following Clapton’s 1997 tour of Japan, Wow Wow Wow had released an 11-CD box set showcasing the following sets:
October 20, 1997 - Marine Messe, Fukuoka
October 21, 1997 - Castle Hall, Osaka
October 22, 1997 - Osaka Jo Hall, Osaka
October 24, 1997 - Green Arena, Hiroshima
October 25, 1997 - Rainbow Hall, Nagoya

Included in the set is a three-track bonus CD featuring: Change The World (from soundboard tape, October 13, 1997); Modern Girl (outtake from the Pilgrim album) and Pilgrim (a cappella version).

One could say Clapton was cruising - the setlist remained the same! A consummate entertainer, the guitarist did not disappoint his Japanese fans. Overall, a nice collection for those who want the Japan 1997 shows.

Thanks to Phil for sharing the tracks.

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

  3. Thanks very much for posting this set. I have a recording of the Fukouka show and it has remained a firm favourite for many years. Fresh form the European summer festival of 1997 which featured Legends, Clapton retained the services of Steve Gadd and Joe Sample which gave a slightly jazzy feel to the sound of the band and he was also using wah-wah on several numbers. Great to hear some other nights from this tour now. Cheers.
