Central Park 2012 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Global Citizen Festival, Central Park, New York City, NY; September 29, 2012. Excellent Palladia HD broadcast.

Thanks to jefft3881 who recorded and shared this show on Dime.

This is what Patrick Doyle of Rolling Stone wrote:

Dave Grohl launched the Foo Fighters’ set with a mellow solo version of “Times Like These,” before the band kicked in raucously and Grohl bounced across each end of the stage headbanging. Grohl seemed most psyched to be there out of anyone, letting out several throaty howls and leading huge sing-alongs on “My Hero” to “All My Life.” The set was heavy on their latest LP Wasting Light, including “Walk” and “These Days.” While fans raised their hands clapping during “Arlandria,” Grohl grinned. “If you had any fucking idea how beautiful that looks from here…” he said.

Grohl seemed determined to savor every moment; at one point [at the end of “My Hero “], he made it clear that this would be the band’s last show for a while. “I wish we could play all night – but I’d rather see Neil Young,” he said. “We don’t have any shows after this. This is where we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time, because, honestly, I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again.”

  4. ‘Foo Fighters’ is what the US air force used to (and still might) call UFO’s. The Foo’s albums are on Roswell Records, as in Roswell New Mexico and Area 51. It’s a long running joke with the band and the fans.

  8. either way, thanks for this post. The Foos always sound great live - I wish they could recreate that sound in the studio instead of sounding so “slick.”

  9. Thanks to all associated with Big-O for this post, which I whined for after the excellent NY&CH post from this fest. I’ve seen everyone from the Beatles to Zappa with multiple stops in between. My favorite live shows have been by the Faces, the Who and the Foo Fighters. While the Faces and Who gave the odd stinker, Dave & Co. have always been amazing. Can’t wait for the reboot. This will do until then.
