Berlin 1986 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Waldbuhne, Berlin, Germany; June 17, 1986. Very good FM broadcast.

Here’s another singer-songwriter with a much wider appeal.

Thanks to als for sharing this show at Dime.

This is what als noted:

“I recently received an email asking for help in identifying a JT show. I don’t want to steal anyone’s thunder (it will be shared on Dime) so I will just say the recording in question turned out to be a significant upgrade over the currently circulating FM sources. It got me thinking about a couple of things. First, most FM broadcasts have already been shared on Dime so “new” recordings are a rare treat. Second, did I have any FM broadcasts in my collection that have not yet been shared on Dime or qualify as under-circulated? This show answers that question. I don’t think I’ve ever seen 6-17-86 on Dime and it has not been widely circulated. 1986 was a terrific performing year for JT and I think this show will only enhance that sentiment.”

als added: “Smoothed transitions between nearly all tracks after Track 7. Most likely taper had a 90-minute cassette and began conserving tape after the first 1/3 of the show to avoid missing any music.”

  4. Awesome! :)

I love to hear the little differences in the way JT performs all of his songs live - that’s what keeps me hooked; you never get the same thing twice. A magnificent performer - I love this version of “Johnnie Comes Back”. I think James’ voice was in his prime here - very comfortable in his vocal range and truly using all of it!

    Thank you!
