Nurnberg 2012 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Jazzstudio Nurnberg, Nurnberg, Germany; September 26, 2012. Excellent radio broadcast (German BR Klassik).

In his review of her recent release, Bending Bridges, JazzTimes‘ Lloyd Sachs wrote, “It confirms Halvorson as an artist whose originality as a guitarist is no fiercer than her originality as a writer. Simply put, no one is making music like this… what a singular talent she is.”

  4. The sound quality of this recording is amazing, and the playing is even better. So many interesting ideas about what to do with an electric guitar in an improvising situation. She’s taken up the legacy of jazz guitar, bits of McLaughlin, Abercrombie, Ribot, Frisell, and founded on that past music her own new and ingenious manner. She’s going to be a leader in this music for a very, very long time. Thanks!
