Australia 2012 [no label, 1CD]

Splendour in the Grass Festival, live at Belongil Fields, Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia; July 27, 2012. Very good to excellent FM broadcast, with some detectable FM hiss.

Thanks to Roman79 who recorded the show and shared the tracks at The Traders’ Den.

This is what Elise Vout wrote at mtv.com.au:

Undeterred by the shoe-sucking, quicksand-like mud and bone-chilling temperature, fans filled the Supertop to see music’s ultimate alternative rocker. Gracing the smokey blue-lit stage puffing a cigarette and defying the mud dressed in white boots and his trademark fitted black attire, you could be forgiven for thinking this was a scene from a Tim Burton film.

The largest crowd of the day sung along in unison to a mix of tracks from [Jack White’s] recent solo album Blunderbuss as well as popular hits from his former band The White Stripes. The band, all dressed in a matching country cult-like attire, gave the set authentic grunt with a bonafide ensemble including drums, cello, piano, violin, and tambourines. Ranging from fast pace to slow and ominous sounds, the all-male band switched to an all-female band mid set, bringing a burst of girl power to the stage.

  2. Wow! The sound quality is superior. Thanks a lot. I was especially keen to hear the version of “Two Against One” as the faux soundtrack, homage to spaghetti Westerns it is taken from, “Rome,” is excellent. The fan-made video for “Two Against One” is also a gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxjuom-jaL0 Damn, that’s a cool vid.
