Unreleased LP 1980 [no label, 1CD]

Some claim it’s from 1978. Master stereo reel-to-reel. Very good to excellent soundboard, slight hiss.

Blue Cheer appeared in [the] spring of 1968 with a thunderously loud remake of Eddie Cochran’s Summertime Blues that many regard as the first true heavy-metal record. One of the first hard-rock power trios, the group was named for an especially high-quality strain of LSD. It’s manager, Gut, was a former Hell’s Angel. - The New Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll (1995).

Thanks to the person who shared this on the net (Sharing The Groove/STG?) in 2005.

Uploader’s notes:

This is an unreleased LP recorded in 1980. I had this master reel-to-reel [for] 20 years, I don’t remember who gave this to me. All the info I have is here. This LP has nothing to do with the 1984 Megaforce LP, “The Beast… Is Back”. I don’t know the lineup, for sure there are Dickie Peterson and Paul Whaley, but not Tony Rainer on vocals, the singer is different. Sound quality is excellent and, comparing this to the 1984 LP, this is less hard and closer to albums like “New Improved” and “The Original Human Being”.

Flash forward to April 2012 and Mikedrums posted the following comment at Dime:

To the best of my knowledge this was never intended to be an album, just demos. I got the first batch that included Summertime Blues, Out of Focus, Route 66, It’s OK, and one or two others in the Spring of ‘79 from a tape-trading friend who had spent some time hanging out with them during rehearsals.┬áThis lineup (Peterson, Ranier, Fleck) did, in fact, play live. I have a rather poor sounding recording of one of their gigs that I hope to post sometime, along with a promo photo. There’s also a video on YouTube of this lineup performing on some TV show.

Thanks to myshadow for the front cover.
