THE LINCOLN PARK MARK COLLECTION: THE ROLLING STONES - NOV 25, 2012 (IEM-SOUNDBOARD/AUD MATRIX)

December 24, 2012 – 5:12 am

GUITAR MAN RUSSELL “SKIP” GILDERSLEEVE R.I.P.

Russell “Skip” Gildersleeve has passed away on September 17, 2013. He was 57. Among musicians, Skip was the guitar tech who had worked with Bob Seger, Rush and Steely Dan, among others. As a music fan, Skip had even reached out to other fans across the sea, generously offering music either for sharing or for personal listening (in instances where sharing was not possible). As a result, BigO readers benefiited whenever there was an Evil Dr Louie or Lincoln Park Mark offering to be shared - that’s Skip giving props to a place he loved.

We shall miss you Skip.

  11. Thank you for this great post. The guys still kick ass. A good show with lots of energy. Regretfully, the reports about Keith’s guitar struggles are true. Hopefully, he’ll be able to knock of the dust and improve his technique. None the less, who’s left standing after 50 years of Rock & Roll. Play it you devil!

  14. Does anyone know of a live link for the rolling stones unsurpassed masters vol 7. The one on guitars 101 is dead and as all you completists know, I would love the complete set.

  16. @ darth, thanks for the link, you always come through. keep on trucking.

By ND on Feb 24, 2013

  17. nd - i cant believe u wanted that set. all that stuff was available elsewhere and much more complete with more material that went with it from the same sessions on other boots. but since u seem to be a completist and i think u wanted it just because u had the first 6 parts i figured id send u that last cd. with stones i prefer demos outtakes alternates rehearsals as opposed to live performances every time. course if its a live perf from 69-73 i wont turn that down either as long as its fm or sbd. dont get me wrong.
i sure wish there were some recordings of roy buchanan with the stones. u know.. he said no to them. but it woulda been nice if he jammed with them first.

  20. of course he was. and how would u know either way if he was or not? what the hell is wrong with u??? 40 years have gone by with this story being told and millions of people know about it and u dont.. and suddenly its no longer true because some idiot says so. holy crap! did u even look this up before u posted this?? do u just type here to get reactions??????
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH U?!?!?!?!?!?

  21. nd - theyre more interested in me than the damned music on the site. its mind boggling. ive never seen anything like it. they sit on the edges of their seats waiting for me to post so they can respond to things i say. i post once they post 8x on top of that. youre a stones fan. can u believe this schmuck who says they never approached roy?? holy shit. he knows. my heads exploding here. its like he sits there and says things like.. left is really right but they just call it left to fuck with people. all u can do is way wtf? what kinda acid is this guy on??

By darth on Feb 24, 2013

  22. ’say’ not ‘way’ - typo on last line.

By darth on Feb 24, 2013

  23. @ darth, take care man. some people need to get a life out there.

PS I use these collections as samplers to intro their stuff to the younger generation. if they like it they have a starting point to seek out other stuff.

  24. “theyre more interested in me than the damned music on the site.”

    NEW DARTH

By DROPKICK SARGE on Feb 24, 2013

  27. When searching for “roy buchanan” and “rolling stones” in Google a considerable amount of webpages will turn up, stating that Roy Buchanan was considered a replacement for Brian Jones in 1969 - but had apparently turned down the offer. I remember first reading this story in a German rock encyclopedia from about 1973 and it seems to be common folklore nowadys when telling about Buchanan. Many webpages even state he was asked to be the replacement for the dead Jones which of course is even less believable since Jones left the band in May 1969 being replaced by Mick Taylor and only died in July 1969. I don’t think the Stones ever actually thought about replacing Mick Taylor by Buchanan. In fact they did not ever think about replacing him before he left the band by himself.

However since in the past I read the Buchanan statement so often I tried to find out if the Buchanan story was fact or fiction and came about the following text (http://www.roybuchanan.org/bio.html): “Buchanan later told journalist Tom Zito that at this point he turned down - through [Charlie] Daniels - a job offer from the Rolling Stones stemming from Brian Jones’ death in July 1969. It’s a great story: a guitarist too hot, too disinterested in fame to join the Stones. Unfortunately, Daniels himself told me he had never even heard that story, nor spoken to the Stones.”

HEY ND..THE POINT IS , IF HE WAS PROVIDING TRUTH THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM .THIS IS A GREAT SITE AND I FOR ONE JUST WANT THE TRUTH TO BE TOLD, NOT DARTH`S MADE UP MIND MYSTERIES.
I TAKE MUSIC AND MUSIC HISTORY TOO SERIOUSLY TO LET SOME DENGENERATE TROLL TRY TO MISLEAD FOLKS WHO DON`T HAVE AS MUCH KNOWLEDGE. HE GETS CORRECTED ON ALMOST EVERY POST BUT ALL HE DOES IS START THE PROFANE RANTS. CHILDISH BOOR.
