Chicago 1979 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Jazz Showcase, Chicago, Illionois; December 31, 1979. Very good to excellent FM broadcast.

Woody Shaw, who passed away in 1989 of kidney failure at the age of 44, was considered the “last innovator” in the jazz trumpet lineage. Here he was, saying goodbye to 1979 and welcoming the ’80s.

Similarly, his music also allows us to leave 2012 behind and invigorates the spirit for 2013.

Thanks to Wilbur who recorded and shared the tracks at Dime.
