Tokyo 2012 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Tokyo Jazz Festival 2012, International Forum Hall A, Tokyo, Japan; September 8, 2012. Excellent FM broadcast.

When Hal David (91) passed away on September 1, 2012, Burt Bacharach dedicated his performance at the Tokyo Jazz Festival to his former songwriting partner. Bacharach had always relied on other singers to make the songs come alive but over the years, the David-Bacharach catalogue has come to stand for creative songwriting. And to some, the songs themselves are a form of comfort food. So, sit back and soak up the magic.

Thanks to akiyama who recorded the show and shared the tracks at Dime.

  4. Note to modern day “songwriters” (and I use the term loosely). This is what talent, craft, and dedication sounds like.
