GROBSCHNITT
Rockpalast 1978 [no label, 2CD]

Live at Rockpalast, Westfalenhalle, Dortmund, Germany; December 8, 1978. Very good soundboard.

Here’s some German rock from a group that’s making its debut appearance here.

Thanks to the person who shared this in 2007.

Uploader’s notes:

This is the definitive version of the oft discussed Westfalenhalle show from 1978 digitally remastered by your truly for your total listening enjoyment. Because of the source tape I had to splice Solar Music in to three parts with slight adjustments along the way… [Ed: Had to do it in four parts to make the files more manageable.] I did my best to re-create the amazing show for you… If you are a fan of Pink Floyd, early Porcupine Tree, Progressive Music then you absolutely need to nab this gem!

Lineage:
SBD > Cassette > Goldwave 5.1

  5. hey rising… bigo previously had a early kraftwerk and a tangerine dream or two and an eno and a fripp & eno and a van der graaf generator. there was another krautrock item from 81 but i forget what it was right now. i was sure there was even a klaus schulz item.
    for that kraftwerk one -

the archives are a good place to find things. and if u look on tube u will find some killer items that were just posted in the last month. they just put up some eloy etc.
for other fans of this stuff.. check out ashra and amon duul 2. not to be confused with amon duul. very different bands. faust can helden. in fact.. do a search on german electronic or krautrock and look primarily in the years 70-83 and u will find some extraordinary music. very trippy very psychedelic.
i personally have over 500 hours of tangerine dream.
one of my fave bands is neu! they resurfaced kinda under the name hallogallo2010 with a member of sonic youth and did a small tour. look for that song on youtube. its their signature song. they had 3-4 albums. one member is gone now but the other brought them back. i waited 35 yrs to see them and sadly it didnt happen for me.
this is tied for my fave music. blues progressive psychedelic. thats my world. but i have other faves too. thank u so much for this.

  9. I saw Grobschnitt at the “Solar Music”-Tour and it was amazing. The band was for three and a half hours on the stage. First they made a theatre-Piece “The Story of Elias Grobschnitt” with a raw humour and exploding toilets. Then the music starts and the highlight was “Solar Music”. I joined the show with about twenty friends and it was like a big party.
After the show we had ringing in the ears, because we stood all the time in front of the loudspeakers.

  13. Wow - cool! I just not long ago discovered this band and they’re WONDERFUL! I haven’t even downloaded it yet but I can’t hold back my excitement at seeing this! You guys really cover the bases. Thanks. AGAIN!!!

  14. Thank you very much for this little-known masterpiece! Solar Music was pretty much on my turntable weekly from the time I discovered it by accident a record store in Virginia in the late 70’s until I found a copy of it on CD.

What is with the flame war “flamer” that keeps posting here? Isn’t this all about the music and not the posters? If you want to editorialize, do so on the articles, but please leave the music for what it is… Music.

  15. Thanks a bunch! I joined the Solar Music tracks together for an abbreviated treat (only 17 minutes?) There is much that’s missing, but it’s still nice to hear this set. Please buy the great Eroc mastered originals and the whole series of “Die Grobschnitt Story” discs. You won’t be disappointed!

  16. Just noticed today that their complete Rockpalast show - about 90 minutes long with the real version of “Solar Music” being almost an hour long is available on YouTube with better sound, so all of you should head there: http://tinyurl.com/a3vnlns

  17. i got 4 very nice tangerine dream items yesterday. once again i will offer them to those who wish to contact me. ive already done so for a bunch of people on this site and friends of mine online in general.
they are 3 shows from july last year - boston (5th) santa barbara (11th) and los angeles (12th). and one is entitled machu picchu also from last year this last item has 6 tracks.

  18. once again i will offer them to those who wish to contact me

You do this every week and as soon as someone comes forward and asks how to contact you , you go apeshit. You really need the attention quite badly don`t you ?

By dunktank willie on Feb 16, 2013

  19. this didnt happen. and those who wanted it did contact me and received the info. i dont want people asking how to contact me. that isnt what my offer says and i didnt go apeshit anywhere. thats all in your mind. i explained to the person who asked how he could obtain the buckley 18 cds (john i believe it was) why it had to be done another way because of people like u and the other idiots on here. he understood. he can see whats going on here. he didnt offer his email address to send it. cmon now. and i dont do it every week. thats an exaggeration. if u dont like any attention u think im getting why are u giving it to me? after i posted my offer here.. what attention do u see me getting other than yours?

  20. Mine. Thanks for the spam list you posted yesterday. Idiot.

By Dingus on Feb 18, 2013

  21. “list” should be “link”.

By Dingus on Feb 18, 2013

  22. DINGUS I GO TO A LOT OF THESE SITES AND WELL YES YOU DO GET A LOT OF SPAM BUT EVENTUALLY YOU LEARN WHAT TO CLICK AND WHAT TO LEAVE ALONE.
RAPIDGATOR SEEMS TO BE PRETTY GOOD AND SO DOES MEDIAFIRE.

  23. Sarge, I know what you mean, some of these sites look like scams and I avoid them, others need to be deciphered to avoid the spam and unwanted downloads. Zippyshare works great too.

The problem here was that our halfwitted “resident arsehole” posted a link on the Blind Faith thread that immediately opened at least a dozen full size windows simultaneously! Someone else pointed it out and bigO wisely deleted the post, and it’s replies, before anyone got burned.

By Dingus on Feb 18, 2013

  24. GOTCHA DINGUS.
AS FOR THE GENIUS THAT THINKS HE`S FOUND A FEMALE WRITTEN BLOG ONLINE BY ME I CAN`T BELIEVE HE OR SHE EVEN WENT TO THE EFFORT TO SEARCH FOR SOMETHING LIKE. WHOO SOMEONE NEEDS A LITTLE MORE ACTION IN THEIR LIFE, THAT`S PRETTY DAMN LONESOME SPENDING TIME DOING THAT.
